ONLINE-BASED MEDIA BROADCAST STREAM MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AND METHOD

Abstract

The invention is a system and method for determining the next media item (41) in a broadcast stream run by a media player (50) in a physical location by user voting. For each media item (41) in the media data pool (40), an eligibility status record (42) and cycle ID (43) are stored. A candidate set is created only from eligible media items (41), and voting is carried out simultaneously with the playback of the current media item (41). At the close of voting, the winning media item (41) is written to the playback queue (51), while the losing media items (41) are locked in a single atomic data operation. Locked media items (41) are removed from the next candidate sets in the same cycle, and their status is reset by creating a new cycle ID (43) at the end of the cycle condition. User devices (10) and the live broadcast screen (60) are kept synchronized with messages containing the round ID (44) and event sequence number (46).
