Abstract

The objective of this invention is to reduce pressure loss in liquids. The hollow fiber membrane element 2 of this invention comprises: a liquid flow tube 21 having a plurality of openings 21d; a plurality of hollow fiber membranes 22 disposed around the liquid flow tube 21 to cover the plurality of openings 21d; a first fixing portion 24 and a second fixing portion 25 fixing the plurality of hollow fiber membranes 22 to the liquid flow tube 21; a baffle 26 at the middle portion 2c of the element, blocking the hollow portion 21a of the liquid flow tube 21; and a space forming member 23 disposed between the liquid flow tube 21 and the plurality of hollow fiber membranes 22, forming a plurality of through holes 23a; and the space forming member 23 forms a communicating space 23b between itself and the liquid flow tube 21, the communicating space 23b connecting at least one opening 21d located in the extending direction D between the baffle 26 and the first fixing portion 24 to the plurality of through holes 23a.
