Preparation methods of flame retardants, flame retardants, uses and systems of flame retardants

Abstract

This invention relates to a method for preparing a flame retardant, the method comprising at least the following steps: a) providing a reaction mixture comprising a component A, the component A comprising itaconic acid or composed of itaconic acid; b) polymerizing the reaction mixture to form a polymer solution, the polymer solution comprising a polymer at least partially dissolved in a solvent, the polymer comprising itaconic acid selected in the range of 25 to 99.95 wt%; c) obtaining a flame retardant comprising the polymer, which can release carbon dioxide from the polymer of the flame retardant by a thermocatalytic decarboxylation reaction. This invention further relates to a flame retardant, the use of the flame retardant, and a system comprising a substrate and the flame retardant.
