The provided functionalized sulfur-containing polyphenylene ether has a chemical structure in which each R1 is independently H or F; Z is , , or ; each R3 is independently H, F, C1-6 straight-chain alkyl, C1-6 fluorinated straight-chain alkyl, C3-6 cyclic alkyl, C3-6 fluorinated cyclic alkyl, C3-6 branched alkyl, or C3-6 fluorinated branched alkyl, and n is an integer from 0 to 10; each R4 is independently , , , or ; and each x is independently an integer from 1 to 60. A functionalized sulfur-containing polyphenylene oxide is provided, which has a chemical structure ,where each R1 is independently of H or F; C3-6 fluorinated branched alkyl group, and n is an integer of 0 to 10; each R4 is independently of , , , or; and each x is an independent integer of 1 to 60.
