Encoding and decoding the geometry of a point cloud

Abstract

Concepts for encoding and decoding a point cloud geometry are disclosed. In an encoding method, it comprises obtaining information indicating magnitudes of residual AC coefficients of; at least one already-coded neighboring RAHT node of a current RAHT node of a RAHT tree for; coding attributes of a point cloud; determining, based on the magnitudes being less than or equal to a threshold, an indication of a prediction mode, for decoding AC coefficients of the current RAHT node, from at least one prediction mode of the at least one already-coded neighboring RAHT node; and decoding the AC coefficients of the current RAHT node according to the indicated prediction mode.
