Abstract

A machine tool (10, 10A, 10B, 10C) includes: a spindle (12); a spindle head (14) movable in the vertical direction (Z); an automatic tool changer (28) disposed in front of the spindle head and for changing the tool held on the spindle; and a protective member (32, 32d, 32u) covering the gap (68) between the spindle head and the automatic tool changer from above; the top surface (32a) of the protective member has an inclined surface (32b) that is inclined in a direction (X) orthogonal to the vertical and horizontal directions and the front and back directions (Y).
