A polyester film for coating metal sheets, possessing both lamination and can-making processability, is provided, along with a method for manufacturing the film and a resin-coated metal sheet using the film. The polyester film for coating metal sheets of the present invention is a polyester film containing polyester resin in a proportion of 70% by mass or more. Its characteristic is that the film thickness, determined by the average, maximum, and minimum values ​​of the film thickness measured at 200 points at 1 mm intervals in each of the length and width directions, is not uniformly 0.0% to 15%, and the ratio of Young's modulus (EMD) in the length direction to Young's modulus (ETD) in the width direction (EMD / ETD) is 1.1 to 10, with an EMD of 5.5 GPa to 19 GPa.
