Abstract

Currently, there is a demand for resins with excellent properties, primarily biodegradability and thermal stability. Furthermore, there is a need for an effective method for manufacturing biodegradable resins. These issues can be addressed by the following methods for manufacturing polyester carbonate resins and branched polyester carbonates. Specifically, this invention provides a branched polyester carbonate resin comprising building blocks derived from aliphatic diols, aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, triol compounds, and diesters, wherein the amount of terminal OH groups and phenyl groups in the aforementioned polyester carbonate resin is adjusted within the predetermined ranges described in this specification; and a method for manufacturing a polyester carbonate resin, which is a method for manufacturing branched polyester carbonate (PEC), wherein the amount of OH groups in the triol compound (as a monomer) and the amount of diester in the polymerization step satisfy the predetermined relationship described in this specification.
