Abstract
This invention provides a liquid crystal alignment agent that can produce a liquid crystal alignment film with excellent surface roughness characteristics, and has resistance to water precipitation and resistance to drying and thickening. A liquid crystal alignment agent comprises: a polymer (P) satisfying at least one of requirements (i) and (ii); a compound (A) represented by formula (1); and at least one compound (B) selected from the group consisting of N,N-dimethylacetamide, etc. Requirements (i): comprising a structural unit derived from a monomer having a partial structure represented by "-NR1-CO-" and having a partial structure represented by "*1-NX1-*1" within the same molecule. Wherein, R1 is a hydrogen atom, etc. X1 is a monovalent thermally detachable group. "*1" represents a bonding bond with an atom different from the carbon atom in the carbonyl group. Requirements (ii): having a partial structure represented by "-NX2-CO-". Wherein, X2 is a monovalent thermally detachable group. In formula (1), A1 is a methyl group, etc. A2 is a methylene group, etc.
