Electrical connectors and electrical connector assemblies

Abstract

An electrical connector and an electrical connector assembly are disclosed. The electrical connector includes a housing and conductive terminals. The housing further includes: a base having a plurality of terminal channels extending from the rear surface of the base to its front surface, wherein conductive terminals are disposed in the terminal channels and protrude from the front surface of the base to form contact ends; and a guide extending forward from the front surface of the base to form mating ends, wherein the distance between the mating ends and the front surface of the base is greater than the distance between the contact ends of the conductive terminals and the front surface. The guide has a side surface having a mounting groove for inserting the conductive terminals, the mounting groove communicating with the terminal channels, such that a portion of the conductive terminal is disposed in the terminal channel and a portion is disposed in the mounting groove. This application provides a compact electrical connector and an electrical connector assembly that can effectively reduce the lateral dimensions of the electrical connector while still meeting creepage distance requirements.
