Abstract

A candidate predictor is evaluated by forming a spatially sampled difference between two sample arrays and transforming the spatially sampled difference. The spatially sampled difference is derived at a resolution which is lower than the resolution of the sample arrays. The disclosed manner of evaluating a candidate predictor may be employed on encoder side and decoder side.
