Abstract

The present invention addresses the problem of providing a vertical centrifuge that is neither a nozzle discharge nor a valve discharge, capable of inhibiting the rupture of microbial cells, capable of obtaining a concentrated liquid containing viable microorganisms as heavy liquid, capable of reducing the occurrence of internal contamination, and capable of continuously supplying a stock solution containing microorganisms, and intermittently extracting the high-concentration microbial concentrate stored on the heavy liquid side without causing it to die. The problem is solved by the following method: a vertical centrifuge (1) that continuously supplies and separates a stock solution containing microorganisms into heavy liquid and light liquid includes: a structure capable of intermittently obtaining a concentrated liquid containing microorganisms from the heavy liquid side, the concentrated liquid containing microorganisms being discharged by a heavy liquid impeller (22) facing the heavy liquid chamber (21), and having a structure capable of injecting replacement water into the heavy liquid chamber (21) for replacing part or all of the heavy liquid in the heavy liquid chamber (21).
