Abstract

This invention enables the assembly of smaller optical devices with higher precision in a shorter time. The assembly apparatus includes: a platform; a vibration damping table disposed on the platform and used to dampen vibrations on the platform; a first holding member disposed on the vibration damping table, which holds and displaces a first optical device via a first holding surface; a second holding member disposed on the vibration damping table, which holds and displaces a second optical device via a second holding surface; a detection member that detects the oscillation of the vibration damping table based on the displacement of the vibration damping table relative to the platform; a first imaging member disposed at a position for capturing images of the first and second holding surfaces, capturing an image of either the first or second holding surface if the detected oscillation is less than a predetermined threshold; a first placement member disposed on the platform, which places the first optical device onto the first holding surface based on the captured image of the first holding surface; and a second placement member disposed on the platform, which places the second optical device onto the second holding surface based on the captured image of the second holding surface.
