Abstract

An image projector for a display includes an emissive image source device having a two-dimensional array of light emitting pixel elements that emit light through a planar output surface , and a field lens having a planar first surface optically coupled to the planar output surface through an optical adhesive or other optical interface material and a convex second surface through which emitted light exits the field lens . The optical interface material has a refractive index that is no less than a refractive index of a transparent material of the field lens to reduce reflections and stray light in a near-field region adjacent the pixel elements . In certain implementations, a light-absorbing arrangement is deployed outside an active area to attenuate stray light. In certain implementations, the projector includes a color combiner and downstream projection optics.
