Abstract

A steerable arm of a surgical instrument of endoscopic surgery, capable of being flexed from a first position and a second position. The steerable arm structurally biased to be in the first position but restrained from fully satisfying the bias, in order to be responsive readily when a force acts to urge the steerable towards the second position. The first position and the second position is determined by the length of a wire dispensed from a spool. The retention from fully satisfying the bias is provided by a limit to the length of the wire dispensable from the spool.
