Abstract

This invention provides an optical glass with a refractive index and Abbe number satisfying equation (1) and a low glass transition temperature. In its glass composition (expressed as mass%), this optical glass contains 5.00% to 21.00% B₂O₃, 6.50% to 25.00% to 40.00% La₂O₃, 5.00% to 18.00% Ta₂O₅, 5.00% to 5.00% WO₃, and a total content (SiO₂ + B₂O₃ + P₂O₅) of 24.50% or less, and a total content (ZrO₂ + Ta₂O₅ + Nb₂O₅ + ... The content of TiO2+WO3 is above 12.00%, the mass ratio of SiO2 / B2O3 is below 0.480, the mass ratio of Li2O / SiO2 is above 0.130 and below 0.470, the mass ratio of ((La2O3+Gd2O3+Y2O3) / (ZrO2+Ta2O5+Nb2O5+TiO2+WO3)) is above 2.150, and the refractive index nd and Abbe number νd satisfy equation (1): νd>-30.466×nd+97.760.
