Synchronising time across devices

Abstract

A system comprising a controller and devices. Each device generates trace messages in response based on respective sub-computations, each trace message comprising a timestamp indicating a current local time at the device. The controller identifies, based on the timestamps of the trace messages and the respective sub-computations, one or more target devices having an error in the current local time at the target device. For one or more target devices, the controller determines a minimum time offset between the current local time at the identified device, and adjusts one or more timestamps generated by the target device based on the time offset. The controller determines a majority local time maintained by a majority of the devices, and adjusts one or more timestamps generated by a target device to align with the majority local time.
