Abstract
Description
[Technical Field]
[0001] The present invention relates to a display device, and more particularly to a display device having a display area using different display media. [Previous Technology]
[0002] With the popularization of full-screen displays and the pursuit of unibody design in consumer electronics, under-screen sensing technology has become a key development focus for small and medium-sized display devices. Because conventional display media, such as liquid crystal cells or organic light-emitting diodes, require backlighting or have complex pixel circuitry, it is not easy to achieve a transparent display area that can overlap with optical sensors (such as lenses).
[0003] However, if the entire display device uses a display medium that can achieve a transparent display area overlapping with the optical sensor, such as a micro-LED (μLED), the production cost is too high. Therefore, developing a display device that uses a display area with different display media while maintaining good display quality is one of the goals to be achieved in this technical field. [Summary of the Invention]

Implementation Method
[0015] In the following text, in order to clearly present the technical features of the present invention, the dimensions (e.g., length, width, thickness, and depth) of the elements (e.g., layers, films, substrates, and regions) in the drawings will be enlarged proportionally, and the number of some elements will be reduced. Therefore, the description and explanation of the embodiments below are not limited to the number of elements in the drawings and the size and shape of the elements, but should cover the size, shape, and deviations of both caused by actual manufacturing processes and / or tolerances. For example, a flat surface shown in the drawings may have rough and / or non-linear characteristics, and an acute angle shown in the drawings may be rounded. Therefore, the elements presented in the drawings of the present invention are mainly for illustration and are not intended to accurately depict the actual shape of the elements, nor are they intended to limit the scope of the claims of the present invention.
[0016] Secondly, the terms "approximately," "approximately," or "substantially" used in this invention not only cover explicitly stated numerical values and ranges, but also cover the permissible deviation range that can be understood by someone skilled in the art to which this invention pertains. This deviation range can be determined by errors generated during measurement, which may be caused by limitations of the measurement system or process conditions, for example. For example, two objects (e.g., planes or traces of a substrate) are "substantially parallel" or "substantially perpendicular," where "substantially parallel" and "substantially perpendicular" respectively represent that the parallelism and perpendicularity between the two objects may include non-parallelism and non-perpendicularity caused by the permissible deviation range.
[0017] Furthermore, "about" can mean within one or more standard deviations of the above-mentioned values, such as ±30%, ±20%, ±10%, or ±5%. The use of terms such as "about," "approximately," or "substantially" in this invention can be selected based on the optical properties, etching properties, mechanical properties, or other properties to determine an acceptable range of deviations or standard deviations, and does not apply to all of the above-mentioned optical properties, etching properties, mechanical properties, and other properties using only one standard deviation.
[0018] The spatial relative terms used in this invention, such as "below," "under," "above," and "above," are for the convenience of describing the relative relationship between one element or feature and another element or feature, as illustrated in the figures. The true meaning of these spatial relative terms includes other orientations. For example, when the illustration is rotated 180 degrees vertically, the relationship between one element and another element may change from "below" or "under" to "above" or "above." Furthermore, the spatial relative descriptions used in this invention should be interpreted in the same way.
[0019] It should be understood that although the present invention may use terms such as "first," "second," and "third" to describe various elements or signals, these elements or signals should not be limited by these terms. These terms are primarily used to distinguish one element from another, or one signal from another. In addition, the term "or" as used in the present invention may, as appropriate, include any combination of one or more of the associated listed items.
[0020] Furthermore, the present invention can be implemented or applied through other different specific embodiments, and the details of the present invention can also be combined, modified and changed in various embodiments based on different viewpoints and applications without departing from the concept of the present invention.
[0021] FIG1 is a top view of a display device 10 according to at least one embodiment of the present invention. FIG2 is an enlarged view of region A of the array substrate 100 in FIG1. Referring to FIG1 and FIG2, the display device 10 has a display area AA and a peripheral area PA adjacent to the display area AA, and the display area AA has a first display area A1 and a second display area A2 adjacent to the first display area A1, and the display device 10 includes an array substrate 100.
[0022] The array substrate 100 has a first display area A1 and a second display area A2 adjacent to the first display area A1, and includes a plurality of first pixel columns R1 and a plurality of second pixel columns R2. The first pixel columns R1 are disposed in the first display area A1 along a first direction D1, and each first pixel column R1 includes a plurality of first pixels PX1 disposed along a second direction D2 substantially perpendicular to the first direction D1. The second pixel columns R2 are disposed in the second display area A2 along the first direction D1, and each second pixel column R2 includes a plurality of second pixels PX2 disposed along the second direction D2.
[0023] The width W2 of the second pixel PX2 in the second direction D2 is approximately the same as the width W1 of the first pixel PX1 in the second direction D2, but the display medium of the second pixel PX2 is different from that of the first pixel PX1. The display medium of the second pixel PX2 includes a first micro light-emitting diode E1, a second micro light-emitting diode E2, and a third micro light-emitting diode E3, and in the second pixel PX2, two of the first micro light-emitting diode E1, the second micro light-emitting diode E2, and the third micro light-emitting diode E3 overlap in the first direction D1.
[0024] Since the display medium of the second pixel PX2 disposed in the second display area A2 is a micro light-emitting diode, and the display medium of the first pixel PX1 disposed in the first display area A1 is different from the display medium of the second pixel PX2, an optical sensor can be superimposed in the second display area A2, which is a transparent display area, while the display medium of the first pixel PX1, which is an opaque display area, can include a liquid crystal unit or an organic light-emitting diode to perform general display functions, thereby avoiding excessively high production costs. In addition, since two of the first micro light-emitting diode E1, the second micro light-emitting diode E2, and the third micro light-emitting diode E3 in the second pixel PX2 overlap in the first direction D1, so that the width W2 of the second pixel PX2 in the second display area A2 is the same as the width W1 of the first pixel PX1 in the first display area A1, obvious screen tearing can be avoided at the boundary between the first display area A1 and the second display area A2, thereby improving the display quality of the display device 10.
[0025] As shown in Figure 2, in the second pixel PX2, the second micro-light-emitting diode E2 and the third micro-light-emitting diode E3 partially overlap in the first direction D1, but the present invention is not limited thereto. In other embodiments, in the second pixel PX2, the second micro-light-emitting diode E2 and the third micro-light-emitting diode E3 may completely overlap in the first direction D1, or the first micro-light-emitting diode E1 and the second micro-light-emitting diode E2 may partially or completely overlap in the first direction D1.
[0026] The second pixel PX2 is sequentially divided into a first horizontal region H1, a second horizontal region H2, and a third horizontal region H3 along the first direction D1, and one of the first micro-light-emitting diodes E1, E2, and E3 is disposed in the first horizontal region H1. For example, about half of the orthographic projection of one of the first micro-light-emitting diodes E1, E2, and E3 onto the array substrate 100 is located in the first horizontal region H1. With the aforementioned design, dark lines can be avoided in the second display area A2 adjacent to the first display area A1, thereby improving the display quality of the display device 10.
[0027] Furthermore, two of the first micro-light-emitting diode E1, the second micro-light-emitting diode E2, and the third micro-light-emitting diode E3 are disposed in the second horizontal region H2. For example, more than half of the orthographic projection of the first micro-light-emitting diode E1, the second micro-light-emitting diode E2, and the third micro-light-emitting diode E3 onto the array substrate 100 is located in the second horizontal region H2. With the aforementioned design, the color shift of the second pixel PX2 in the second display area A2 due to uneven color mixing can be avoided, thereby improving the display quality of the display device 10.
[0028] As shown in FIG. 2, more than half of the orthographic projection of the third micro-light-emitting diode E3 onto the array substrate 100 is located in the first horizontal region H1, and more than half of the orthographic projections of the first micro-light-emitting diode E1 and the second micro-light-emitting diode E2 onto the array substrate 100 are respectively located in the second horizontal region H2. In some embodiments, the first micro-light-emitting diode E1, the second micro-light-emitting diode E2 and the third micro-light-emitting diode E3 may be a red micro-light-emitting diode, a green micro-light-emitting diode and a blue micro-light-emitting diode, respectively.
[0029] That is to say, more than half of the blue third micro-light-emitting diode E3 in the orthographic projection of the array substrate 100 is located in the first horizontal region H1, and more than half of the red first micro-light-emitting diode E1 and the green second micro-light-emitting diode E2 in the orthographic projection of the array substrate 100 are respectively located in the second horizontal region H2. With the above design, dark lines can be avoided in the second display area A2 adjacent to the first display area A1, and the second pixel PX2 of the second display area A2 can be prevented from color shifting due to uneven color mixing, such as the generation of obvious red lines, blue lines or yellow lines, thereby improving the display quality of the display device 10.
[0030] Please continue referring to Figure 2. The second pixel PX2 is sequentially divided into a first longitudinal region V1, a second longitudinal region V2, and a third longitudinal region V3 along the second direction D2. The first micro-light-emitting diode E1, the second micro-light-emitting diode E2, and the third micro-light-emitting diode E3 are respectively disposed in the first longitudinal region V1, the second longitudinal region V2, and the third longitudinal region V3. For example, about half of the orthographic projection of the first micro-light-emitting diode E1 onto the array substrate 100 is located in the first longitudinal region V1, about half of the orthographic projection of the second micro-light-emitting diode E2 onto the array substrate 100 is located in the second longitudinal region V2, and about half of the orthographic projection of the third micro-light-emitting diode E3 onto the array substrate 100 is located in the third longitudinal region V3.
[0031] Furthermore, the first pixel PX1 includes a first sub-pixel P1, a second sub-pixel P2, and a third sub-pixel P3, and in the first pixel PX1, the first sub-pixel P1, the second sub-pixel P2, and the third sub-pixel P3 are arranged sequentially along the second direction D2. In some embodiments, the first sub-pixel P1, the second sub-pixel P2, and the third sub-pixel P3 may be red sub-pixels, green sub-pixels, and blue sub-pixels, respectively. In the first direction D1, approximately more than half of the red first micro-light-emitting diode E1 overlaps with the red first sub-pixel P1, approximately more than half of the green second micro-light-emitting diode E2 overlaps with the green second sub-pixel P2, and approximately more than half of the blue third micro-light-emitting diode E3 overlaps with the blue third sub-pixel P3. Through the aforementioned design, the first display area A1 and the second display area A2 can have consistent color rendering of the displayed image, thereby improving the display quality of the display device 10.
[0032] FIG3 is an enlarged schematic diagram of a portion of the array substrate of a display device according to at least another embodiment of the present invention. Referring to FIG3, the embodiment of FIG3 has the same component structure and relative positional relationship as the embodiment of FIG2, and the top view of the display device in FIG3 is substantially the same as the top view of the display device 10 in FIG2. Therefore, the same technical features will not be described or illustrated here. The difference between the two embodiments is that the first pixel PX1 in FIG3 includes a first sub-pixel P1, a second sub-pixel P2A and a third sub-pixel P3A, and in the first pixel PX1, two of the first sub-pixel P1, the second sub-pixel P2A and the third sub-pixel P3A overlap in the first direction D1.
[0033] As shown in Figure 3, in the second pixel PX2, the second micro-light-emitting diode E2 and the third micro-light-emitting diode E3 partially overlap in the first direction D1, while in the first pixel PX1, the second sub-pixel P2A, which has the same color as the second micro-light-emitting diode E2, and the third sub-pixel P3A, which has the same color as the third micro-light-emitting diode E3, completely overlap in the first direction D1. For example, in the second pixel PX2, the green second micro-light-emitting diode E2 and the blue third micro-light-emitting diode E3 partially overlap in the first direction D1, while in the first pixel PX1, the green second sub-pixel P2A and the blue third sub-pixel P3A completely overlap in the first direction D1. Through the aforementioned design, the first display area A1 and the second display area A2 can achieve color consistency in the displayed image, thereby improving the display quality of the display device.
[0034] Figures 4A to 4F are enlarged schematic diagrams of a portion of the array substrate of a display device according to at least another embodiment of the present invention. The embodiments of Figures 4A to 4F are the same as the embodiments of Figure 2 in terms of most of the component structures and relative positions, and the top view schematic diagrams of the display devices of Figures 4A to 4F are substantially the same as the top view schematic diagram of the display device 10 of Figure 2. Therefore, the same technical features will not be described or illustrated here.
[0035] Please refer to Figure 4A. The difference between the embodiment in Figure 4A and the embodiment in Figure 2 is that more than half of the orthographic projection of the red first micro-light-emitting diode E1A and the blue third micro-light-emitting diode E3A onto the array substrate 100 are located in the first horizontal region H1, and more than half of the orthographic projection of the green second micro-light-emitting diode E2A onto the array substrate 100 is located in the third horizontal region H3. That is, none of the red first micro-light-emitting diode E1A, the green second micro-light-emitting diode E2A, and the blue third micro-light-emitting diode E3A are located in the second horizontal region H2. In this embodiment, the obvious red and blue lines in the second display area A2 adjacent to the first display area A1 can be avoided by adjusting the grayscale brightness.
[0036] In detail, as shown in Figures 1 and 4A, the display device 10 further includes a driving circuit 200 electrically connected to these second pixel columns R2. These second pixel columns R2 include a boundary pixel column R2a adjacent to the first display area A1. In the boundary pixel column R2a, the display brightness of one of the first micro light-emitting diode E1A, the second micro light-emitting diode E2A and the third micro light-emitting diode E3A disposed in the first horizontal area H1 is less than the preset brightness set by the driving circuit 200.
[0037] In some embodiments, the aforementioned display brightness is approximately 0.5 to 0.6 times the aforementioned preset brightness. Furthermore, the preset brightness may be the grayscale brightness of one of the first micro-light-emitting diodes E1A, E2A, and E3A disposed in the first horizontal region H1, which the driving circuit 200 originally intended to provide to the boundary pixel column R2a; or it may be the grayscale brightness of one of the first micro-light-emitting diodes E1A, E2A, and E3A disposed in the first horizontal region H1, which the driving circuit 200 provides to the second pixel column R2 adjacent to the boundary pixel column R2a.
[0038] For example, in the boundary pixel column R2a, the display brightness of the red first micro light-emitting diode E1A and the blue third micro light-emitting diode E3A located in the first horizontal area H1 are both lower than the preset brightness set by the driving circuit 200. By adjusting the grayscale brightness of the red first micro light-emitting diode E1A and the blue third micro light-emitting diode E3A located in the first horizontal area H1 of the boundary pixel column R2a, obvious red and blue lines can be avoided in the boundary pixel column R2a of the second display area A2 adjacent to the first display area A1.
[0039] Please refer to Figure 4B. The difference between the embodiment in Figure 4B and the embodiment in Figure 2 is that approximately half of the orthographic projection of the red first micro-light-emitting diode E1B onto the array substrate 100 is located in the first horizontal region H1, approximately half of the orthographic projection of the blue third micro-light-emitting diode E3B onto the array substrate 100 is located in the second horizontal region H2, and approximately half of the orthographic projection of the green second micro-light-emitting diode E2B onto the array substrate 100 is located in the third horizontal region H3. In this embodiment, a noticeable red line can be avoided in the second display area A2 adjacent to the first display area A1 by adjusting the grayscale brightness.
[0040] For example, in the boundary pixel column R2a, the display brightness of the red first micro light-emitting diode E1B disposed in the first horizontal area H1 is less than the preset brightness set by the driving circuit 200. By adjusting the grayscale brightness of the red first micro light-emitting diode E1B disposed in the first horizontal area H1 of the boundary pixel column R2a, a noticeable red line can be avoided from appearing in the boundary pixel column R2a of the second display area A2 adjacent to the first display area A1.
[0041] Please refer to Figure 4C. The difference between the embodiment in Figure 4C and the embodiment in Figure 2 is that approximately half of the orthographic projection of the blue third micro-light-emitting diode E3C onto the array substrate 100 is located in the first horizontal region H1, approximately half of the orthographic projection of the red first micro-light-emitting diode E1C onto the array substrate 100 is located in the second horizontal region H2, and approximately half of the orthographic projection of the green second micro-light-emitting diode E2C onto the array substrate 100 is located in the third horizontal region H3. In this embodiment, the obvious red and blue lines in the second display area A2 adjacent to the first display area A1 can be avoided by adjusting the grayscale brightness.
[0042] For example, in the boundary pixel column R2a, the display brightness of the blue third micro-light-emitting diode E3C located in the first horizontal area H1 and the display brightness of the red first micro-light-emitting diode E1C located in the second horizontal area H2 are both lower than the preset brightness set by the driving circuit 200. By adjusting the grayscale brightness of the blue third micro-light-emitting diode E3C located in the first horizontal area H1 and the red first micro-light-emitting diode E1C located in the second horizontal area H2 of the boundary pixel column R2a, obvious red and blue lines can be avoided in the boundary pixel column R2a of the second display area A2 adjacent to the first display area A1.
[0043] Please refer to Figure 4D. The difference between the embodiment in Figure 4D and the embodiment in Figure 2 is that approximately half of the orthographic projection of the red first micro-light-emitting diode E1D and the green second micro-light-emitting diode E2D onto the array substrate 100 is located in the first horizontal region H1, and approximately half of the orthographic projection of the blue third micro-light-emitting diode E3D onto the array substrate 100 is located in the second horizontal region H2. In this embodiment, the obvious yellow line in the second display area A2 adjacent to the first display area A1 can be avoided by adjusting the grayscale brightness.
[0044] For example, in the boundary pixel column R2a, the display brightness of the red first micro-light-emitting diode E1D and the green second micro-light-emitting diode E2D located in the first horizontal area H1 are both lower than the preset brightness set by the driving circuit 200. By adjusting the grayscale brightness of the red first micro-light-emitting diode E1D and the green second micro-light-emitting diode E2D located in the first horizontal area H1 in the boundary pixel column R2a, obvious yellow lines can be avoided in the boundary pixel column R2a of the second display area A2 adjacent to the first display area A1.
[0045] Please refer to Figure 4E. The difference between the embodiment in Figure 4E and the embodiment in Figure 2 is that approximately half of the orthographic projection of the blue third micro-light-emitting diode E3E onto the array substrate 100 is located in the first horizontal region H1, and approximately half of the orthographic projections of the red first micro-light-emitting diode E1E and the green second micro-light-emitting diode E2E onto the array substrate 100 are both located in the third horizontal region H3. That is, none of the red first micro-light-emitting diode E1E, the green second micro-light-emitting diode E2E, and the blue third micro-light-emitting diode E3E has approximately half of its orthographic projection onto the array substrate 100 located in the second horizontal region H2. In this embodiment, a noticeable blue line can be avoided in the second display area A2 adjacent to the first display area A1 by adjusting the grayscale brightness.
[0046] For example, in the boundary pixel column R2a, the display brightness of the blue third micro light-emitting diode E3E disposed in the first horizontal area H1 is less than the preset brightness set by the driving circuit 200. By adjusting the grayscale brightness of the blue third micro light-emitting diode E3E disposed in the first horizontal area H1 in the boundary pixel column R2a, obvious blue lines can be avoided in the boundary pixel column R2a of the second display area A2 adjacent to the first display area A1.
[0047] Please refer to Figure 4F. The difference between the embodiment in Figure 4F and the embodiment in Figure 2 is that more than half of the orthographic projection of the blue third micro-light-emitting diode E3F onto the array substrate 100 is located in the first horizontal region H1, and more than half of the orthographic projections of the red first micro-light-emitting diode E1F and the green second micro-light-emitting diode E2F onto the array substrate 100 are respectively located in the third horizontal region H3. That is, the red first micro-light-emitting diode E1F, the green second micro-light-emitting diode E2F, and the blue third micro-light-emitting diode E3F are located in the third horizontal region H3. Of the three types of light-emitting diodes E3F, approximately half of the orthographic projection of each is located in the second horizontal region H2, and approximately half of the orthographic projection of the red first micro-light-emitting diode E1F is located in the first vertical region V1, approximately half of the orthographic projection of the blue third micro-light-emitting diode E3F is located in the second vertical region V2, and approximately half of the orthographic projection of the green second micro-light-emitting diode E2F is located in the third vertical region V3. In this embodiment, a noticeable blue line can be avoided in the second display area A2 adjacent to the first display area A1 by adjusting the grayscale brightness.
[0048] For example, in the boundary pixel column R2a, the display brightness of the blue third micro light-emitting diode E3F disposed in the first horizontal area H1 is less than the preset brightness set by the driving circuit 200. By adjusting the grayscale brightness of the blue third micro light-emitting diode E3F disposed in the first horizontal area H1 in the boundary pixel column R2a, obvious blue lines can be avoided in the boundary pixel column R2a of the second display area A2 adjacent to the first display area A1.
[0049] In summary, in the display device of at least one embodiment of the present invention, since the display medium of the second pixel disposed in the second display area is a micro light-emitting diode, and the display medium of the first pixel disposed in the first display area is different from the display medium of the second pixel, an optical sensor can be superimposed on the second display area, which is a transparent display area, while the display medium of the first pixel in the first display area, which is an opaque display area, can include a liquid crystal unit or an organic light-emitting diode to perform general display functions, thereby avoiding excessively high production costs. Furthermore, since two of the first, second, and third micro light-emitting diodes in the second pixel overlap each other, so that the width of the second pixel in the second display area is the same as the width of the first pixel in the first display area, obvious screen tearing at the boundary between the first and second display areas can be avoided, thereby improving the display quality of the display device.

Those skilled in the art to which the present invention pertains may make some modifications and refinements without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention.
