Lithium secondary battery poisoning system and a disabled lithium secondary battery

Abstract

The present invention provides a lithium secondary battery poisoning system and a disabled lithium secondary battery. The lithium secondary battery poisoning system includes a poisonant disposed inside or outside the electrochemical reaction system of the lithium secondary battery. When the battery temperature reaches a poisoning initiation temperature or the battery voltage reaches a poisoning initiation voltage, the poisonant releases a primary poisoning element and an auxiliary poisoning element into the electrochemical reaction system. The released elements disable the cathode active material from participating in lithium-ion transfer reactions and promote the formation of stable lithium chloride (LiCl) at the anode. As a result, thermal runaway of the lithium secondary battery is effectively suppressed.
