Compression device, memory system and compression method

Abstract

This invention provides a compression device, memory system, and compression method capable of miniaturization. According to one embodiment, a compression device is provided that performs dictionary-based encoding and entropy encoding. A first encoding unit generates a first symbol by performing dictionary-based encoding on first data. A generation unit generates an encoding table. A first conversion unit converts the first symbol into a plurality of second symbols. A first buffer stores the plurality of second symbols. A second encoding unit, having generated the encoding table, reads a plurality of second sub-symbols from the first buffer and performs entropy encoding with reference to the encoding table. Each of the plurality of second symbols is output from the first conversion unit to the first buffer at a different period and read from the first buffer at a different period.
