Abstract

A removable fan module for a computer system is disclosed. The computer system includes a chassis having a bottom panel and a plurality of side walls. A top cover engages with the side walls to cover the chassis. A removable fan module is located on the bottom panel, near one edge of the top cover. The removable fan module includes a handle that can be positioned between a retracted position and an extended position, allowing a user to remove the removable fan module from the chassis. The assembly includes a locking mechanism located at the edge of the top cover. The locking mechanism engages with the handle to hold the handle in the retracted position.

Claims

1. A computer system, comprising: A chassis having a bottom panel and multiple side walls; A top cover, engaging with the side walls to cover the chassis; a removable fan module located on the bottom panel near an edge of the top cover, the removable fan module including a handle movable between a retracted position and an extended position, allowing a user to remove the removable fan module from the chassis; a locking mechanism located on the edge of the top cover, the locking mechanism engaging with the handle to hold the handle in the retracted position; a pair of partitions attached to the bottom panel, the pair of partitions defining a fan slot for the removable fan module; and a rotatable baffle attached between the pair of partitions, the rotatable baffle having a lower position below the removable fan module, and the rotatable baffle in the upper position blocking an area between the pair of partitions when the removable fan module is removed.

2. The computer system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the rotatable wind deflector is mounted on the bottom panel via a mounting bracket, the mounting bracket being attached to one end of a torsion spring and the other end of the torsion spring being attached to the rotatable wind deflector, the torsion spring biasing the rotatable wind deflector to the upper position.

3. The computer system as claimed in claim 1, wherein one of the partitions includes a spring plate having a claw, the spring plate causing the claw to contact the baffle and positioning the baffle at an angle between the upper position and the lower position.

4. The computer system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the locking mechanism includes a latch mounted below the top cover, the latch including a spring coupled to the locking mechanism to engage the locking mechanism with the handle when the handle is in the retracted position.

5. The computer system as claimed in claim 4, wherein the handle includes a groove and the locking mechanism includes a protrusion that engages with the groove.

6. The computer system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the detachable fan module includes a first rail that holds a first spring in contact with the handle, the handle being biased by the first spring at the extended position.

7. The computer system as claimed in claim 6, wherein the detachable fan module includes a second rail parallel to the first rail, the second rail holding a second spring in contact with the handle, the handle being biased by the second spring at the extended position.

8. A detachable fan module, comprising: A fan housing including a fan motor and a fan; a front fan frame attached to one end of the fan housing; a first track extending from one side of the front fan frame; a second track extending from the other side of the front fan frame, the second track being parallel to the first track; a handle supported by the first track and the second track, the first track holding a first spring in contact with the handle, the second track holding a second spring in contact with the handle, the handle having a retracted position and an extended position, the handle including: a top plate; a pair of support arms extending downward from the top plate; a pair of posts, the support arms being fixed to the respective posts; and a pair of protrusions perpendicularly attached to the respective posts, the protrusions contacting and compressing the first spring and the second spring when the handle is in the retracted position; and a rear fan frame coupled to an opposite end of the fan housing, the rear fan frame including a second handle.

9. The removable fan module as claimed in claim 8, wherein the handle includes a cover, another protrusion, and a groove, the other protrusion extending downward from the cover, the groove being located on the other protrusion, the groove engaging with a locking mechanism of a computer system to retain the handle in the retracted position.
