Abstract

A cosmetic product includes a cup and a cosmetic substance. The cup has a sidewall defining a cup cavity and a bottom component. [Technical Field]

[0001] This disclosure generally relates to cosmetic, hair care, body care and / or skin care products, and more specifically to systems and methods for retaining cosmetic substances in cosmetic products. [Previous Technology]

[0002] Cosmetic, hair care, body care, and / or skin care products may contain various cosmetic substances in several different containers and can be applied using several different methods. For example, lipstick or lip balm substances may be in the form of an elongated tube, cylinder, square, rectangular, and / or rhomboid prism, or other shapes, set within a protective container. Such containers allow the lipstick or lip balm substance to selectively advance to an extended position relative to the container to be applied by the user. The lipstick or lip balm substance may be a generally solid but relatively soft molded component that can be inserted into the cavity of a retaining cup of the container. In the event of accidental drop or other impact to the container and / or cup, the lipstick or lip balm substance may be damaged, broken, or otherwise detached from the retaining cup. [0004] Examples within the scope of this disclosure relate to cosmetic products and methods of assembling cosmetic products.

[0005] In one example cosmetic product, the cosmetic product may include a cup for holding a cosmetic substance. The cup has a sidewall defining a cup cavity and a bottom component. The bottom component includes: a first elongated protrusion extending across the bottom component and projecting from an inner surface of the bottom component into the cup cavity; and a second elongated protrusion extending across the bottom component, projecting from the inner surface of the bottom component into the cup cavity, and intersecting the first elongated protrusion. At least a portion of the cosmetic substance is disposed within the cup cavity. A pressure-sensitive adhesive is located between the first elongated protrusion and the second elongated protrusion and between the bottom component of the cup and the cosmetic substance, and contacts the bottom component of the cup and the cosmetic substance to retain the cosmetic substance in the cup.

Implementation Method

[0027] Generally, these various methods provide cosmetic products and methods for assembling cosmetic products that adequately retain cosmetic substances (e.g., lipstick, lip balm, deodorant / antiperspirant, powder, etc.) during use and in the event of accidental drops and / or impacts. 1. A cosmetic product comprising: a cup having a sidewall and a bottom component defining a cup cavity, the bottom component including: a first elongated protrusion extending across the bottom component and projecting into the cup cavity from an inner surface of the bottom component; and a second elongated protrusion extending across the bottom component and projecting into the cup cavity from the inner surface of the bottom component, the second elongated protrusion intersecting the first elongated protrusion; a cosmetic substance having at least a portion disposed within the cup cavity; and a pressure-sensitive adhesive located between the first elongated protrusion and the second elongated protrusion and between the bottom component of the cup and the cosmetic substance, and contacting the bottom component of the cup and the cosmetic substance.

2. The cosmetic product as claimed in claim 1, wherein the pressure-sensitive adhesive is a hot melt adhesive.

3. The cosmetic product as claimed in claim 1, wherein the pressure-sensitive adhesive is based on polysiloxane.

4. The cosmetic product of claim 1, comprising an inner body, wherein the cup is configured to be disposed at least partially within the inner body.

5. As in request item 4, the cosmetic product, wherein: The cup includes a cup retaining member extending from one of the outer surfaces of the sidewall; and the cup retaining member is configured to engage with a notch formed in the inner body.

6. The cosmetic product of claim 5, wherein the cup retaining member is configured to apply a pushing force toward the cup cavity when the cup is inserted into the inner body.

7. The cosmetic product of claim 1, wherein the bottom component includes a pore formed through the bottom component, at least a portion of the pore being positioned between the first elongated protrusion and the second elongated protrusion.

8. A cosmetic product comprising: a cup having a sidewall and a bottom component defining a cup cavity, the bottom component including: a first elongated groove extending across the bottom component and projecting into an inner surface of the bottom component; and a second elongated groove extending across the bottom component and projecting into the inner surface of the bottom component, the second elongated groove intersecting the first elongated groove; a cosmetic substance having at least a portion disposed within the cup cavity; and a pressure-sensitive adhesive at least partially located within the first elongated groove and the second elongated groove, the pressure-sensitive adhesive contacting the first elongated groove and the second elongated groove of the bottom component of the cup, and the cosmetic substance.

9. The cosmetic product as claimed in claim 8, wherein the pressure-sensitive adhesive is a hot melt adhesive.

10. The cosmetic product as claimed in item 8, wherein the pressure-sensitive adhesive is based on polysiloxane.

11. The cosmetic product of claim 8, comprising an inner body, wherein the cup is configured to be disposed at least partially within the inner body.

12. As in the cosmetic product of request item 11, wherein: The cup includes a cup retaining member extending from one of the outer surfaces of the sidewall; and the cup retaining member is configured to engage with a notch formed in the inner body.

13. The cosmetic product of claim 12, wherein the cup retaining member is configured to apply a pushing force toward the cup cavity when the cup is inserted into the inner body.

14. The cosmetic product of claim 8, wherein the bottom component includes a hole formed through the bottom component, at least a portion of the hole being positioned between the first elongated groove and the second elongated groove.

15. A method of assembling a cosmetic product, comprising: forming a metal disk defining a disk cavity; inserting a pressure-sensitive adhesive into the disk cavity; inserting a granular cosmetic substance into the disk cavity; and compacting the granular cosmetic substance in the metal disk into a compacted granular cosmetic substance, such that the pressure-sensitive adhesive is located between at least a portion of the metal disk and at least a portion of the compacted granular cosmetic substance and contacts the at least a portion of the metal disk and the at least a portion of the compacted granular cosmetic substance.

16. The method of claim 15, comprising securing the metal disc to an outer housing.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein inserting the pressure-sensitive adhesive into the disc cavity comprises: positioning the pressure-sensitive adhesive on an inner surface of a bottom component of the metal disc such that the pressure-sensitive adhesive is located between the inner surface of the bottom component of the metal disc and a bottom surface of the compacted granular cosmetic material, and contacts the inner surface of the bottom component of the metal disc and the bottom surface of the compacted granular cosmetic material.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein inserting the pressure-sensitive adhesive into the disc cavity comprises: positioning the pressure-sensitive adhesive on an inner surface of one sidewall of the metal disc such that the pressure-sensitive adhesive is located between the inner surface of the sidewall of the metal disc and a side surface of the compacted granular cosmetic material, and contacts the inner surface of the bottom component of the metal disc and the side surface of the compacted granular cosmetic material.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the pressure-sensitive adhesive forms a ring.

20. The method of claim 15, wherein the pressure-sensitive adhesive is based on polysiloxane.
