Description

[Technical Field]

[0001] The present invention relates to an alignment device, and more particularly to an alignment device suitable for aligning an optical waveguide lens with a projector. [Previous Technology]

[0002] Generally speaking, an optical waveguide display module includes an optical waveguide lens and a projector, which is used to output the image projected by the projector through the optical waveguide lens to display the image on the user's eyes. Therefore, the alignment of the optical waveguide lens and the projector is crucial.

[0003] However, if the waveguide lens and the projector are not aligned, the displayed image output by the waveguide lens will be incomplete or skewed, thus affecting image quality and user experience. Therefore, how to effectively increase the accuracy of alignment between the waveguide lens and the projector is an important issue at present. [Summary of the Invention]

[0004] The present invention provides an alignment device to effectively ensure the accuracy of alignment between the optical waveguide lens and the projector, thereby increasing image quality and user experience.

[0005] The present invention provides an alignment device, including a carrier device, a sensing device, a first adjustment device, and a second adjustment device. The carrier device is adapted to hold a contoured lens or an optical waveguide lens, wherein the contoured lens is provided with a plurality of feature points, and the feature points form a first pattern. The sensing device is disposed relative to the carrier device. The sensing device is adapted to sense the first pattern to generate a first sensing result, and the sensing device is adapted to sense a second pattern generated by the light-emitting portion of the optical waveguide lens to generate a second sensing result. The first adjustment device adjusts the position of the sensing device or the carrier device according to the first sensing result, so that the contoured lens is aligned with the sensing device. The second adjustment device is adapted to mount a projector. The projector is disposed adjacent to the light-incident portion of the optical waveguide lens, and the second adjustment device adjusts the position of the projector according to the second sensing result, so that the optical waveguide lens is aligned with the projector.

[0006] In this way, the accuracy of the alignment between the waveguide lens and the projector can be effectively ensured, thereby increasing image quality and user experience.

Implementation Method

[0008] In the embodiments listed below, the same or similar elements or components will be represented by the same reference numerals.

[0009] Figure 1 is a schematic diagram of an alignment device according to one embodiment of the present invention. Referring to Figure 1, the alignment device 100 may include a support device 110, a sensing device 120, a first adjustment device 130, and a second adjustment device 140.

[0010] The carrier device 110 is suitable for placing the contour lens 210 or the optical waveguide lens 220, as shown in Figure 2A or Figure 2B. In this embodiment, the contour lens 210 is provided with a plurality of feature points 211, 212, 213, and 214, and the feature points 211, 212, 213, and 214 can form a first pattern 215. In Figure 2, the number of feature points is 4, and the first pattern 215 is rectangular, but the embodiments of the present invention are not limited to this. In other embodiments, the user can adjust the number of feature points according to their needs and form a first pattern 215 of other shapes, which can also achieve the same technical effect.

[0011] In some embodiments, the dummy lens 210 may be a lens that mimics a waveguide lens, and the waveguide lens 220 may be a general waveguide lens. The present invention first uses the dummy lens 210 to adjust the alignment device 100, and then uses the adjusted alignment device 100 to join the waveguide lens 220 of the waveguide display module with the projector 230.

[0012] The sensing device 120 may be disposed relative to the support device 110. The sensing device 120 is adapted to sense a first pattern 215 formed by feature points 211, 212, 213, and 214 of the contour lens 210 to generate a first sensing result. Additionally, the sensing device 120 is also adapted to sense a second pattern generated by the light-emitting portion 221 of the optical waveguide lens 220 to generate a second sensing result. In some embodiments, the sensing device 120 may include a camera or other suitable image sensor.

[0013] The first adjustment device 130 may be connected to the sensing device 120 or the support device 110. The first adjustment device 130 may be used to adjust the position of the sensing device 120 so that the contour lens 210 is aligned with the sensing device 120. For example, the contour lens 210 is perpendicular to the sensing device 120, and the center of the first pattern 215 of the contour lens 210 is aligned with the center of the sensing device 120.

[0014] In some embodiments, since the sensing device 120 is disposed relative to the support device 110, the first adjustment device 130 may also be connected to the support device 110 to adjust the position of the support device 110 so that the contour lens 210 is aligned with the sensing device 120. The following embodiments are described with the first adjustment device 130 connected to the sensing device 120.

[0015] In some embodiments, the first adjustment device 130 may include a bracket 131, a horizontal axis adjustment element 132, a roll axis adjustment element 133, a yaw axis adjustment element 134, and a pitch axis adjustment element 135.

[0016] The bracket 131 can be connected to the sensing device 120, that is, the sensing device 120 can be mounted on the bracket 131. The horizontal axis adjustment element 132 can adjust the bracket 131 (e.g., move it back and forth and left and right) on the X and Y axes to adjust the position of the sensing device 120. The roll axis adjustment element 133 can adjust the bracket 131 (e.g., rotate it around the X axis) on the X axis to adjust the position of the sensing device 120. The yaw axis adjustment element 134 can adjust the bracket 131 (e.g., rotate it left and right around the Z axis) on the Z axis to adjust the position of the sensing device 120. The pitch axis adjustment element 135 can adjust the bracket 131 (e.g., rotate it back and forth around the Y axis) on the Y axis to adjust the position of the sensing device 120.

[0017] The second adjustment device 140 is adapted to mount a projector 230, as shown in Figure 2B. The projector 230 may be disposed adjacent to the light-incident section 222 of the optical waveguide lens 220. In this embodiment, the projector 230 may project a second pattern onto the light-incident section 222 of the optical waveguide lens 220, and the second pattern may be transmitted from the light-incident section 222 to the light-emitting section 221 via a transmission section (not shown), and the second pattern is generated at the light-emitting section 221. The projector 230 refers to a projector disposed in an optical waveguide display module, and the optical waveguide lens 220 refers to an optical waveguide lens disposed in an optical waveguide display module.

[0018] In addition, the second adjustment device 140 can be used to adjust the position of the projector 230 so that the optical waveguide lens 220 is aligned with the projector 230. For example, the optical waveguide lens 220 is perpendicular to the projector 230, and the center of the light-emitting portion 221 of the optical waveguide lens 220 is aligned with the center of the projector 230.

[0019] In some embodiments, the second adjustment device 140 may include a bracket 141, a horizontal axis adjustment element 142, a roll axis adjustment element 143, a yaw axis adjustment element 144, and a pitch axis adjustment element 145.

[0020] The bracket 141 is suitable for mounting the projector 230, that is, the projector 230 can be mounted on the bracket 141. The horizontal axis adjustment element 142 can adjust the bracket 141 (e.g., move it back and forth and left and right) on the X and Y axes to adjust the position of the projector 230. The roll axis adjustment element 143 can adjust the bracket 141 (e.g., rotate it around the X axis) on the X axis to adjust the position of the projector 230. The yaw axis adjustment element 144 can adjust the bracket 141 (e.g., rotate it left and right around the Z axis) on the Z axis to adjust the position of the projector 230. The pitch axis adjustment element 145 can adjust the bracket 141 (e.g., rotate it back and forth around the Y axis) on the Y axis to adjust the position of the projector 230.

[0021] In some embodiments, the alignment device 100 may include a processing device 150. The processing device 150 may be connected to the sensing device 120. The processing device 150 may receive a first sensing result generated by the sensing device 120 and confirm whether the first pattern 215 of the first sensing result matches a first preset pattern.

[0022] For example, the processing device 150 can calculate the difference in the center point position and the difference in rotation level (e.g., roll axis, yaw axis, and pitch axis) between the first pattern 215 of the conformal lens 210 (e.g., a lens that imitates an optical waveguide lens) and the first preset pattern. Then, the processing device 150 can confirm whether the difference in the center point position between the first pattern 215 and the first preset pattern is less than a first preset value.

[0023] When it is confirmed that the difference in the center point position between the first pattern 215 and the first preset pattern is less than a first preset value, the processing device 150 can further confirm whether the difference in the degree of rotation between the first pattern 215 and the first preset pattern is less than a second preset value. When it is confirmed that the difference in the degree of rotation between the first pattern 215 and the first preset pattern is less than the second preset value, the processing device 150 can confirm that the first pattern 215 matches the first preset pattern.

[0024] Furthermore, when it is confirmed that the difference in the center point position between the first pattern 215 and the first preset pattern is not less than a first preset value, or when it is confirmed that the difference in the degree of rotation between the first pattern 215 and the first preset pattern is not less than a second preset value, the processing device 150 can confirm that the first pattern 215 does not match the first preset pattern. In this embodiment, the first preset value is, for example, 0.05 millimeters (mm), and the second preset value is, for example, 0.1 degrees.

[0025] As shown in Figure 3A, when the processing device 150 confirms that the first pattern 215 matches the first preset pattern 310, the processing device 150 does not generate a first adjustment instruction, indicating that the contour lens 210 is aligned with the sensing device 120. In Figure 3A, the first pattern 215 and the first preset pattern 310 completely overlap, but this disclosure is not limited thereto. In other embodiments, if the first pattern 215 is a pattern that is proportionally reduced or enlarged from the first preset pattern 310, the processing device 150 can also confirm that the first pattern 215 matches the first preset pattern 310.

[0026] As shown in Figures 3B, 3C, 3D, 3E, or 3F, when the processing device 150 confirms that the first pattern 215 does not match the first preset pattern 310, the processing device 150 may generate a first adjustment instruction, indicating that the orthokeratology lens 210 and the sensing device 120 are not aligned. Then, in some embodiments, the user may operate the first adjustment device 130 according to the first adjustment instruction to adjust the position of the sensing device 120 or the support device 110 so that the orthokeratology lens 210 and the sensing device 120 are aligned.

[0027] For example, when the first adjustment instruction generated by the processing device 150 is as shown in Figure 3B, it indicates that the sensing device 120 is offset on the tumble axis, for example, the difference in the degree of rotation on the tumble axis is not less than a second preset value. Accordingly, the user can operate the tumble axis adjustment element 133 of the first adjustment device 130 to adjust the position of the sensing device 120 or the support device 110. Then, the processing device 150 can reconfirm whether the first pattern 215 matches the first preset pattern 310. Until the processing device 150 confirms that the first pattern 215 matches the first preset pattern 310, it indicates that the orthokeratology lens 210 and the sensing device 120 are aligned.

[0028] When the first adjustment instruction generated by the processing device 150 is as shown in Figure 3C, it indicates that the sensing device 120 is offset on the yaw axis, for example, the difference in the degree of rotation on the yaw axis is not less than the second preset value. Accordingly, the user can operate the yaw axis adjustment element 134 of the first adjustment device 130 to adjust the position of the sensing device 120 or the support device 110.

[0029] When the first adjustment instruction generated by the processing device 150 is a 3D image, it indicates that the sensing device 120 is offset on the pitch axis, for example, the difference in the degree of rotation on the pitch axis is not less than a second preset value. Accordingly, the user can operate the pitch axis adjustment element 135 of the first adjustment device 130 to adjust the position of the sensing device 120 or the support device 110.

[0030] When the first adjustment instruction generated by the processing device 150 is as shown in Figure 3E, it indicates that the sensor 120 is offset on the X-axis of the horizontal axis, for example, the difference in the position of the center point on the X-axis is not less than a first preset value. Accordingly, the user can operate the horizontal axis adjustment element 132 of the first adjustment device 130 to adjust the position of the sensor 120 or the support device 110. Then, the processing device 150 can reconfirm whether the first pattern 215 matches the first preset pattern 310. Until the processing device 150 confirms that the first pattern 215 matches the first preset pattern 310, it indicates that the orthokeratology lens 210 and the sensor 120 are aligned.

[0031] When the first adjustment instruction generated by the processing device 150 is as shown in Figure 3F, it indicates that the sensing device 120 is offset on the Y-axis of the horizontal axis, for example, the difference in the position of the center point on the Y-axis is not less than a first preset value. Accordingly, the user can operate the horizontal axis adjustment element 132 of the first adjustment device 130 to adjust the position of the sensing device 120 or the support device 110.

[0032] In addition, in some embodiments, the first adjustment device 130 may be connected to the processing device 150, and the processing device 150 may generate a control signal to control the first adjustment device 130 according to the first adjustment instruction, and adjust the position of the sensing device 120 or the support device 110 so that the contour lens 210 is aligned with the sensing device 120.

[0033] For example, when the first adjustment instruction generated by the processing device 150 is Figure 3B, the processing device 150 can generate a corresponding control signal to control the roll axis adjustment element 133 (and the adjustment element relative to Figures 3C to 3F) of the first adjustment device 130 to adjust the position of the sensing device 120 or the support device 110 according to the first adjustment instruction corresponding to Figure 3B (and Figures 3C to 3F). Then, the processing device 150 can reconfirm whether the first pattern 215 matches the first preset pattern 310 until the processing device 150 confirms that the first pattern 215 matches the first preset pattern 310, indicating that the contour lens 210 and the sensing device 120 are aligned.

[0034] After the conformal lens 210 and the sensing device 120 are aligned, the conformal lens 210 is removed and replaced with the optical waveguide lens 220. Then, the processing device 150 can receive the second sensing result and confirm whether the second pattern of the second sensing result matches the second preset pattern. For example, the processing device 150 can calculate the difference and degree of overlap between the rotation degree (e.g., roll axis, yaw axis, and pitch axis) between the second pattern and the second preset pattern. Then, the processing device 150 can confirm whether the difference in rotation degree between the second pattern and the second preset pattern is less than a third preset value.

[0035] When it is confirmed that the difference in rotation degree between the second pattern and the second preset pattern is less than a third preset value, the processing device 150 can confirm whether the degree of overlap between the second pattern and the second preset pattern is completely overlapping. When it is confirmed that the degree of overlap between the second pattern and the second preset pattern is completely overlapping, the processing device 150 can confirm that the second pattern matches the second preset pattern.

[0036] Furthermore, when it is confirmed that the difference in rotation between the second pattern and the second preset pattern is not less than a third preset value, or when it is confirmed that the overlap between the second pattern and the second preset pattern is not completely overlapping, the processing device 150 can confirm that the second pattern and the second preset pattern do not match. In this embodiment, the third preset value is, for example, 0.05 mm.

[0037] As shown in Figure 4A, when the processing device 150 confirms that the second pattern 411 of the optical waveguide lens 220 (e.g., a general optical waveguide lens) matches the second preset pattern 412, the processing device 150 does not generate a second adjustment instruction, indicating that the optical waveguide lens 220 is aligned with the projector 230. Furthermore, when the second pattern 411 completely overlaps with the second preset pattern 412, the processing device 150 can confirm that the second pattern 411 matches the second preset pattern 412. Additionally, in Figures 4A to 4F, the second pattern 411 is a crosshair pattern, but the embodiments of the present invention are not limited to this. In other embodiments, the second pattern 412 can be other patterns, such as the all-white pattern shown in Figure 4G or the black-background white square pattern shown in Figure 4H.

[0038] As shown in Figures 4B, 4C, 4D, 4E, or 4F, when the processing device 150 confirms that the second pattern 411 does not match the second preset pattern 412, the processing device 150 may generate a second adjustment instruction indicating that the optical waveguide lens 220 and the projector 230 are not aligned. Then, in some embodiments, the user can operate the second adjustment device 140 according to the second adjustment instruction to adjust the position of the projector 230 so that the optical waveguide lens 220 and the projector 230 are aligned.

[0039] For example, when the second adjustment instruction generated by the processing device 150 is as shown in Figure 4B, it indicates that the projector 230 is offset on the roll axis, for example, the difference in the degree of rotation on the roll axis is not less than a third preset value. Accordingly, the user can operate the roll axis adjustment element 143 of the second adjustment device 140 to adjust the position of the projector 230. Then, the processing device 150 can reconfirm whether the second pattern 411 matches the second preset pattern 412. Until the processing device 150 confirms that the second pattern 411 matches the second preset pattern 412, it indicates that the optical waveguide lens 220 and the projector 230 are aligned.

[0040] When the second adjustment instruction generated by the processing device 150 is as shown in Figure 4C, it indicates that the projector 230 is offset on the yaw axis, for example, the difference in the degree of rotation on the yaw axis is not less than a third preset value. Accordingly, the user can operate the yaw axis adjustment element 144 of the second adjustment device 140 to adjust the position of the projector 230. Next, the processing device 150 can reconfirm whether the second pattern 411 matches the second preset pattern 412. Until the processing device 150 confirms that the second pattern 411 matches the second preset pattern 412, it indicates that the optical waveguide lens 220 and the projector 230 are aligned.

[0041] When the second adjustment instruction generated by the processing device 150 is the 4D pattern, it indicates that the projector 230 is offset on the pitch axis, for example, the difference in the degree of rotation on the pitch axis is not less than a third preset value. Accordingly, the user can operate the pitch axis adjustment element 145 of the second adjustment device 140 to adjust the position of the projector 230. Next, the processing device 150 can reconfirm whether the second pattern 411 matches the second preset pattern 412. Until the processing device 150 confirms that the second pattern 411 matches the second preset pattern 412, it indicates that the waveguide lens 220 and the projector 230 are aligned.

[0042] When the second adjustment instruction generated by the processing device 150 is as shown in Figure 4E, it indicates that the projector 230 is offset on the X-axis of the horizontal axis, for example, the degree of overlap on the X-axis is not completely aligned. Accordingly, the user can operate the horizontal axis adjustment element 142 of the second adjustment device 140 to adjust the position of the projector 230.

[0043] When the second adjustment instruction generated by the processing device 150 is Figure 4F, it indicates that the projector 230 is offset on the Y-axis of the horizontal axis, for example, the degree of overlap on the Y-axis is not completely aligned. Accordingly, the user can operate the horizontal axis adjustment element 142 of the second adjustment device 140 to adjust the position of the projector 230.

[0044] In addition, in some embodiments, the second adjustment device 140 may be connected to the processing device 150, and the processing device 150 may generate a control signal to control the second adjustment device 140 according to the second adjustment instruction, adjust the position of the projector 230, and align the optical waveguide lens 220 with the projector 230.

[0045] For example, when the second adjustment instruction generated by the processing device 150 is Figure 4B, the processing device 150 can generate a corresponding control signal to control the roll axis adjustment element 1433 (and the adjustment elements relative to Figures 3C to 3F) of the second adjustment device 140 to adjust the position of the projector 230 according to the second adjustment instruction corresponding to Figure 4B (and Figures 4C to 4F). Then, the processing device 150 can reconfirm whether the second pattern 411 matches the second preset pattern 412 until the processing device 150 confirms that the second pattern 411 matches the second preset pattern 412, indicating that the optical waveguide lens 220 and the projector 230 are aligned.

[0046] In some embodiments, the position of the first pattern 215 corresponds to the position of the light-emitting part 221.

[0047] In some embodiments, a bonding element 240 is provided around the light-incident portion 222 of the optical waveguide lens 220 (general optical waveguide lens). The bonding element 240 can be adapted to bond the optical waveguide lens 220 and the projector 230 when the optical waveguide lens 220 is aligned with the projector 230, so as to complete the assembly of the optical waveguide lens 220 and the projector 230.

[0048] In some embodiments, the bonding element 240 may include an optical adhesive, such as ultraviolet rays glue (UV glue). That is, the bonding element 240 (optical adhesive) may be disposed around the light-incident portion 222 of the optical waveguide lens 220. Then, when the optical waveguide lens 220 is aligned with the projector 230, the bonding element 240 (optical adhesive) is irradiated with light (e.g., ultraviolet light) to cure the bonding element 240 (optical adhesive) so as to bond the optical waveguide lens 220 to the projector 230.

[0049] In some embodiments, the bonding element 240 may include a plastic component and an optical adhesive. The plastic component may be disposed around the light-incident portion 222 of the optical waveguide lens 220, and the optical adhesive may be disposed on the plastic component. Then, when the optical waveguide lens 220 is aligned with the projector 230, the optical adhesive is irradiated with light (e.g., ultraviolet light) to cure the optical adhesive, thereby bonding the optical waveguide lens 220 and the projector 230.

[0050] Figure 5 is a flowchart of the operation method of the alignment device according to one embodiment of the present invention. In step S502, a contoured lens is placed on the carrier of the alignment device, wherein the contoured lens is provided with a plurality of feature points, and the feature points form a first pattern.

[0051] In step S504, the first pattern is sensed by the sensing device of the alignment device to generate a first sensing result. In step S506, the position of the sensing device or the support device is adjusted by the first adjustment device of the alignment device to align the contour lens with the sensing device.

[0052] In step S508, the contour lens is replaced with an optical waveguide lens, and the optical waveguide lens is placed on the carrier device. The optical waveguide lens is, for example, a general optical waveguide lens, that is, the optical waveguide lens of the product disposed in the optical waveguide display module. In step S510, a projector is mounted on the second adjustment device of the alignment device, wherein the projector is disposed adjacent to the light-incident portion of the optical waveguide lens. In step S512, a second pattern generated by the light-emitting portion of the optical waveguide lens is sensed by a sensing device to generate a second sensing result.

[0053] In step S514, the position of the projector is adjusted by the second adjustment device to align the optical waveguide lens with the projector. In step S516, a bonding element is provided around the light-incident portion of the optical waveguide lens. In step S518, when the optical waveguide lens is aligned with the projector, the optical waveguide lens is bonded to the projector by the bonding element.

[0054] In some embodiments, the position of the first pattern corresponds to the position of the light-emitting portion. In some embodiments, the first adjustment device and the second adjustment device may each include a bracket, a horizontal axis adjustment element, a roll axis adjustment element, a yaw axis adjustment element, and a pitch axis adjustment element.

[0055] Figure 6 is a flowchart of the operation method of the alignment device according to another embodiment of the present invention. In this embodiment, steps S502 to S504 are the same as or similar to steps S502 to S514 in Figure 5, and can be referred to the description of the embodiment in Figure 1, so they will not be repeated here.

[0056] In step S602, the processing device of the alignment device receives the first sensing result. In step S604, the processing device confirms whether the first pattern of the first sensing result matches the first preset pattern. When it is confirmed that the first pattern matches the first preset pattern, the process proceeds to step S606, and the processing device does not generate a first adjustment instruction. Then, the process proceeds to step S508.

[0067] In summary, the alignment device disclosed in this invention senses a first pattern on a contoured lens placed on a carrier device via a sensing device to generate a first sensing result. The contoured lens has multiple feature points that form the first pattern. The sensing device senses a second pattern generated by the light-emitting portion of an optical waveguide lens placed on the carrier device to generate a second sensing result. A first adjustment device adjusts the position of the sensing device or the carrier device to align the contoured lens with the sensing device. A second adjustment device adjusts the position of the projector to align the optical waveguide lens with the projector, wherein the projector is positioned adjacent to the light-incident portion of the optical waveguide lens. This effectively ensures the accuracy of the alignment between the optical waveguide lens and the projector, thereby improving image quality and user experience.
