Abstract

A transparent display device includes a first circular polarizing unit, a second circular polarizing unit, a self-emissive display module, and a liquid crystal module. The second circular polarizing unit overlaps the first circular polarizing unit. The self-emissive display module is located between the first and second circular polarizing units. The liquid crystal module is located between the first and second circular polarizing units or between the second circular polarizing unit and the self-emissive display module. An automotive display device is also provided.

Claims

1. A transparent display device, comprising: First polarizing unit, first linear polarizer; The second polarizing unit includes a second linear polarizer and a three-quarter wavelength compensation plate, and overlaps the first polarizing unit. A self-emissive display module is located between the first polarizing unit and the second polarizing unit, and the three-quarter wavelength compensation sheet is located between the second linear polarizer and the self-emissive display module. The self-emissive display module includes a driving backplate, which includes a substrate and a circuit structure. The substrate has a circuit area and multiple transparent areas. A liquid crystal module is also located between the first polarizing unit and the self-emissive display module, and the three-quarter wavelength compensation sheet is located between the second linear polarizer and the liquid crystal module. The phase difference of the light entering the liquid crystal module is controlled by the voltage of the liquid crystal module. In this scenario, when no voltage is applied to the liquid crystal module, ambient light from the back side of the transparent display device enters the first linear polarizer and becomes first linearly polarized light. Then, second linearly polarized light enters the liquid crystal module and becomes third linearly polarized light, exiting the liquid crystal module. Next, fourth linearly polarized light passes through the plurality of transparent areas of the self-emissive display module and becomes fifth linearly polarized light, exiting the self-emissive display module. The phase difference between the fifth and fourth linearly polarized lights is substantially the same. The phase difference between the third and fourth linearly polarized lights is less than or equal to 10 degrees. The intensity attenuation between the third and fourth linearly polarized lights is less than or equal to 10%. Then, sixth linearly polarized light passes through the three-quarter wavelength compensation plate and becomes first circularly polarized light, exiting the three-quarter wavelength compensation plate. Next, second circularly polarized light passes through the second linear polarizer and becomes seventh linearly polarized light, exiting the second linear polarizer and exiting as parallel light from the display surface of the transparent display device. When a voltage is applied to the liquid crystal module, the ambient light from the back side of the transparent display device enters the first linear polarizer and becomes the first linearly polarized light, then leaves the first linear polarizer. Next, the second linearly polarized light enters the liquid crystal module and changes its polarization direction to become the eighth linearly polarized light, which leaves the liquid crystal module. The polarization direction of the second linearly polarized light is different from that of the eighth linearly polarized light. Then, the ninth linearly polarized light passes through the plurality of transparent areas of the self-emissive display module and leaves the self-emissive display module as the tenth linearly polarized light. Next, the eleventh linearly polarized light passes through the three-quarter wavelength compensation plate and becomes the first elliptically polarized light, which leaves the three-quarter wavelength compensation plate. Then, the second elliptically polarized light passes through the second linear polarizer and becomes the seventh linearly polarized light, which leaves the second linear polarizer and exits as parallel light from the display surface of the transparent display device. The polarization directions of the eighth to eleventh linearly polarized lights are different from those of the third to sixth linearly polarized lights, respectively.

2. The transparent display device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the line area separates the plurality of transparent areas from each other.

3. The transparent display device as claimed in claim 2, wherein the circuit structure is a mesh structure and includes a plurality of intersecting horizontal portions and a plurality of intersecting vertical portions.
