Abstract

This invention discloses an electrolyte composition and a solar cell. The electrolyte composition comprises: 0.02M to 0.3M of a cobalt complex; 0.1M to 0.3M of tris(4-methoxyphenyl)amine; and 0.1mM to 3mM of iodine. The solar cell comprises: a pair of electrodes, a working electrode, and the electrolyte composition as described in the embodiments of this invention. The electrolyte composition is located between the pair of electrodes and the working electrode. The solar cell exhibits excellent battery characteristics.

Claims

1. An electrolyte composition comprising: 0.02 M to 0.3 M of a cobalt complex; 0.1 M to 0.3 M of tris(4-methoxyphenyl)amine; and 0.1 m M to 3 m M of iodine.

2. The electrolyte composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein the cobalt complex comprises at least one of Co(bpy)3(PF6)2 and Co(bpy)3(PF6)3, wherein bpy represents 2,2'-bipyridine.

3. The electrolyte composition as described in claim 1 further comprises a solvent.

4. The electrolyte composition as claimed in claim 3, wherein the solvent comprises at least one of acetonitrile and 3-methoxypropionitrile.

5. The electrolyte composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein the molar concentration of tris(4-methoxyphenyl)amine is between 0.15 M and 0.25 M.

6. The electrolyte composition as described in claim 1, wherein the molar concentration of iodine is between 0.5 mM and 1.5 mM.

7. A solar cell comprising: a pair of electrodes; a working electrode; and an electrolyte composition as described in any one of claims 1 to 6, located between the pair of electrodes and the working electrode.

8. The solar cell as claimed in claim 7, wherein the material of the working electrode comprises at least one of TiO2, SnO2 and ZnO.

9. The solar cell as claimed in claim 7, wherein the material of the electrode pair comprises at least one of platinum, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene), carbon black, carbon nanotubes, and graphene.

10. The solar cell as claimed in claim 7, wherein the photoelectric conversion efficiency of the solar cell is between 10.3% and 11.1%.
