Abstract

The hydrogenation process for renewable feedstock involves introducing the renewable feedstock and hydrogen in the lower stream into the upper part of the fixed-bed reactor and distributing the lower stream to the top surface of the first catalyst bed in such a way that the top surface is uniformly wetted across the reactor cross-section. The feedstock then flows down through the first catalytic layer, where it is reacted under hydrogenation conditions sufficient to induce a selected reaction group including hydrogenation, hydrogen deoxidation, hydrogen nitrification, hydrogen sulfide, hydrogen metal catalysis, hydrogen catalysis, and their combinations. Liquid hydrocarbons separated from the wastewater are recycled to renewable feedstock at a ratio of 0.4:1 to 1.8:1, based on the volume of renewable feedstock.
