Abstract

According to different approaches, community-sourced data collection techniques are described to enable UE localization based on RTT. To address the problem of finding a base station (e.g., Wi-Fi AP, mobile base station, BLE transmitter, etc.) that supports RTT measurement (e.g., according to IEEE 802.1 IMC, 3GPP Version 16, etc.), the RTT measurement capability of the base station can be collected from the UE and maintained by a cloud-based location platform within the base station's database (or more specifically, the RTT sub-database of that database). To address the problem of determining the location of the physical antenna, RTT measurements can be collected from the community from the UE for base stations capable of measuring RTT, and used by triangulation algorithms (e.g., the WLS multi-factor algorithm) to determine the location of the physical antenna, which can also be maintained in the base station's database. The accuracy of triangulation measurements can be improved by collecting GNSS data (e.g., distance) from the UE and performing cloud-based RTK GNSS positioning for the UE.
