Abstract

The invention relates to a method for reconstructing color blocks, a method for encoding color blocks, and a method for providing a binary sequence containing encoded video data to a video decoder. In one respect, the invention proposes a method for reconstructing the color blocks of the target block to be reconstructed. The method involves decoding the correlation information between the first and second residuals, the first residual, and the color block prediction information from the binary sequence, where the first residuals are the residuals of the first color component and the second residuals are the residuals of the second color component. The method also includes the step of generating predictive patterns for the first color component and predictive patterns for the second color information based on the predictive information, and inferring the second residual patterns by applying the correlation information to the first residual patterns. The method also includes an additional step of reconstructing the color block of the first color component by adding the first residual samples and predicted samples of the first color component, and reconstructing the color block of the second color component by adding the second residual samples and predicted samples of the second color component.
