Abstract

The proposed system, methods, and means relate to the processing steps for media files linked to 3D video data. The file contains information indicating that several video-based point-compressed component tracks (V-PCCs) can be played simultaneously as a playback group. These V-PCC component tracks may represent the corresponding encoding versions of one or more V-PCC components, and the video decoder can play the tracks simultaneously to determine that they belong to the same playback group. The video decoder can also identify from the media file a specific set of PCC components comprising groups of cells corresponding to different objects in the dot cloud or different parts of the same object in the dot cloud. The video decoder can decode each group of cells individually, so that a subset of the object or part of the dot cloud can be accessed without accessing the rest of the object or part.
