Transparent glass and ceramic items with durability and display devices containing these items

Abstract

The invention relates to a transparent article comprising: a glass-ceramic matrix consisting of a primary and secondary facing surfaces of at least 40% by mass; and an optical film structure arranged on the primary surface. The optical film structure consists of alternating layers of high refractive index (RI) and low refractive index (RI) and an anti-scratch layer. This item also exhibits an average light transmittance greater than 80% and a maximum hardness greater than 10 GPa, as measured by the Berkovich Hardness Test over a depth range of approximately 100 nm to approximately 500 nm. The glass ceramic matrix has an elastic modulus greater than 85 GPa and fracture toughness greater than 0.8 MPa / m. Furthermore, the optical film structure also exhibits a residual compressive stress > 700 MPa and an elastic modulus > 140 GPa.
