Abstract

The invention relates to a method and apparatus for encoding / decoding images. The image decoding method according to the invention may include the following steps: restoring the most frequent mode (MFM) indicator to determine whether the current block's internal prediction mode is a predetermined internal prediction mode; inferring, based on the MFM indicator, the current block's internal prediction mode; and generating the current block's prediction block by performing internal prediction on the current block based on the internal prediction mode.
