Abstract

The invention relates to wireless communication methods, wireless access points and wireless stations. The invention provides methods, devices and systems to support communication by using orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) with a planned tone support for breaking through a 20 Mbps subchannel in a wireless channel. In some respects, a non-inherited tone plan can define the tone set for a resource unit (RU) such that the RU does not overlap with the 20 MHz subchannel boundary of the wireless channel. The position of the tone set in the non-inherited tone plan is shifted relative to the corresponding tones associated with the corresponding RU in the inherited tone plan. One or more exposed tone plans may allow for the piercing of subchannels while using certain RU codes that would otherwise partially overlap with the pierced subchannel in the legacy tone plan.
