PROCEDURE FOR PREPARING THE TRIMTHOPRIM NANO EMULSION SYSTEM

Abstract

The invention proposes a process for preparing a trimethoprim nano-emulsion system comprising the following steps: i) preparing a liquid phase containing the active ingredient trimethoprim by dissolving it in a solvent selected from the group including α-methylpyrrolidone (α-methylpyrrolidone), ethanol and water, β-propanol and water, and mixtures thereof; ii) preparing a surface-active mixture comprising β-tween 80 and ethyl acetate; iii) slowly adding droplets of the liquid phase containing the active ingredient trimethoprim from step i) to the carrier mixture of step ii) under stirring until a homogeneous mixture is formed; iv) equilibrating the mixture by gentle stirring; v) high-pressure homogenizing the emulsion of step iv) using a high-pressure homogenizer; vi) leaving the emulsion of step v) overnight and performing filtration to obtain the micro-emulsion system; where the ratios and performance conditions are as described in the description.This invention enables the creation of a trimthoprim microemulsion system with very small (approximately 11 nm) stable particles, increased water solubility, and a suitable active ingredient content, thereby increasing bioavailability.
