EQUIPMENT TO REDUCE POWER REQUIREMENTS IN IMAGE PRODUCTION FOR DISPLAYS AND PROCESSOR CONTROL METHODS

Abstract

The invention relates to a device for reducing the power requirement for image generation for displays and a method for controlling the processor. The reduction in power requirement for image generation for displays bypasses rendering very similar frames based on comparing certain parameters related to instruction calls. The first instruction call is received from the game console by the Central Processing Unit (CPU), and then the second instruction call is provided to the CPU. The CPU compares the second instruction call with the first. If at least one parameter changes beyond the threshold, the CPU sends a second instruction to the graphics processing unit (GPU) for rendering. However, if the changes in the selected parameters fall below the threshold, the CPU sends the rendered image to the display earlier for presentation to the user, effectively eliminating the use of the GPU for that frame.
