ROAMING METHOD FOR DEVICES CONNECTED TO A WIRELESS (WIFI) NETWORK IN A WIRELESS ACCESS POINT (WIFI MESH) NETWORK

Abstract

This useful solution proposes a roaming method for devices connecting to a wireless network (WiFi) in a WiFi Mesh network through a custom-defined message structure that adheres to the IEEE 1905.1 and 802.11k, 802.11V standard message structure and a suitable area finding algorithm for the device requiring roaming in the network.The method includes two steps: periodically updating connection information between the transmitter and the connected device; assessing the connection status of the wireless device in the network to decide whether to proceed with roaming for that device; implementing an algorithm to find a suitable new coverage area for the connected device; when the transmitter finds a new coverage area for the connected device to roam, it will send a roaming request message to the transmitter containing the target coverage area that the device will connect to; after the transmitter receives the RFS Response message approving the device's roaming, the transmitter will send a coverage area management message to the device to request a switch to the new coverage area.
