Abstract
The useful solution refers to a process for producing methyl carboxyl kappa-caragenan material from red algae. This process involves alkalizing red algae biomass (Kappaphycus striatus) with NaOH and using 0.2% KCl under freezing conditions to isolate gel-form kapa-caragenan. Kapa-caragenan is then alkoxide-derived in 2-propanol in an alkaline environment before being reacted with CH3COOH to obtain a purified methyl carboxyl kapa-caragenan derivative. The process described in the solution demonstrates that the methyl carboxyl substitution ratio can be easily adjusted, resulting in a product with good biocompatibility, non-toxicity, and antioxidant properties.
