A method and apparatus for measuring a resonance frequency response of passive microwave devices

Abstract

A method and apparatus for measuring a resonance frequency response of passive microwave devices are provided. The method includes generating a signal via a transmitter, transmitting the signal through the passive microwave device, and measuring the resonance frequency response. The method includes placing one or more dielectric lossless medium within a distance of the passive microwave device and altering the effective permittivity of a near field region while measuring a resonance frequency response. The apparatus includes a housing for the passive microwave device and dielectric lossless media, and a positioning mechanism for altering the distance between them, or changing the thickness by dielectric stacking, or changing the relative permittivity of the dielectric lossless medium by using an electric field. The apparatus includes a digital signal processing unit for determining the resonance frequency response from a plurality of measurements from the receiver.
