Non-aqueous monophasic long-lasting insect repellent dispersion for topical application

Abstract

A non-aqueous topical insect repellent composition with prolonged protection that forms a composition of active within non-aqueous media comprising combination of non-aqueous vehicles, and or fixating film formers, rheology modifiers, mucoadhesives, surface modifiers, stabilizers, and antioxidants. The insect repellent is natural or synthetic or a combination of both. The composition offers ease of application, good spread ability, non-sticky and emollient effect on skin. The invention provides an effective means to repel insects, wherein upon topical application non-aqueous media forms a protective barrier layer on skin, exposing active repellent on skin surface, reducing its skin permeation and thus provides safer yet extended duration of protection.
