Abstract

A composition comprising a biologically pure culture of a fungicidal strain of Paenibacillus sp. comprising a fusaricidin synthase variant lacking a functional adenylation domain in the third module. The present composition also provides a composition comprising a biologically pure culture of a fungicidal strain of Paenibacillus sp. or a cell-free extract thereof comprising at least one paeniserin and at least one paeniprolixin. Isolated compounds and methods for treating a plant disease with the disclosed compositions and compounds are also provided. Method for identification.

Claims

1. A composition for treating a plant, characterized in that it comprises a biologically pure culture of a fungicidal strain of Paenibacillus sp comprising a variant of fusaricidin synthase lacking a functional adenylation domain in the third module (FusA-A3), or a cell-free extract thereof, wherein the lack of a functional FusA-A3 inhibits the synthesis of fusaricidins with a tyrosine or phenylalanine in the amino acid residue (3) compared to the synthesis of fusaricidins by a strain of Paenibacillus sp comprising a wild-type fusaricidin synthase, and wherein the variant of the fusaricidin synthase comprises the SEQ ID NO:
