Claims

In some embodiments, a system for producing fluid from a well may include an electric submersible pump (ESP) disposed in a wellhead and configured to pump the fluid. The system may further include a distributed acoustic detection (DAS) system, for example, having an interrogator unit and a fiber optic cable extending to the bottom of the well. One end of the fiber optic cable may be disposed at the bottom of the well relative to the ESP. In some embodiments, the system may further include a controller configured to receive data from the DAS system, process the data to detect a discharge, determine a parameter of the detected discharge, and alter the operation of the ESP in response to the determination that the parameter exceeds a threshold.
