Claims

A superabsorbent base composition for a hydrostimulatory seed coating comprises: a superabsorbent polymer having a water absorption capacity of at least 50 times its weight, in the range of 20 to 35% by weight of the composition; a non-aqueous, non-flammable solvent, in the range of 40 to 80% by weight of the composition; and a stabilizer to prevent premature swelling of the superabsorbent polymer in the solvent, in the range of up to 15% by weight of the composition. A method for coating a seed with this composition is also described.

1. A superabsorbent base composition for hydrostimulatory seed coating, characterized in that it comprises: a. a superabsorbent polymer having a water absorption capacity of at least 50 times its weight, in the range of 20 to 35% by weight of the composition; b. a non-aqueous, non-flammable solvent in the range of 40 to 80% by weight of the composition; and c. a stabilizer to prevent premature swelling of the superabsorbent polymer, in the range of up to 15% by weight of the composition.

21. A method for coating a seed with the composition according to claims 1 to 20, characterized in that it comprises dosing the composition according to any one of claims 1 to 18 for 5 to 25 seconds onto the seed in a seed coating device, then drying the coated seed and releasing the coated, dried seed from the seed coating device for up to 120 seconds.
