Claims

A fuel element for a nuclear reactor is provided. The fuel element comprises non-fissile particles. The non-fissile particles comprise a core comprising a neutron-absorbing material and an outer shell surrounding the core. The neutron-absorbing material is positioned in an inner radial portion of the core. The core is configured to remain stable at a temperature not less than 1000°C. The outer shell comprises silicon carbide. A fuel pellet and a method for producing a fuel pellet are also provided.
