AI Technical Summary
Existing screen devices with solar panels and power supplies integrated into the front panel face challenges in creating a simple and reliable electrical connection between the power supply and motor, especially in compact and aesthetically unattractive designs, where space is limited and easy access is hindered by the need to hold the front panel in an open position for coupling.
The implementation of an electric coupling with a contact surface on the box base and a spring contact on the front panel, which separates in the open state and automatically connects in the closed state, allowing for easy installation and maintenance, and optionally using additional contact surfaces and spring contacts for data transmission and battery state indication.
This solution simplifies the electrical connection process, facilitates easier installation and maintenance, and ensures a reliable connection despite tolerances and space constraints, enhancing the compactness and aesthetics of the screen device.
Abstract
Description
[0001] SCREEN DEVICE
[0002] The present invention relates to a screen device, comprising: a screen roller, with a screen that is rollable and unrollable thereon; a screen box, in which the screen roller is mounted rotatably, comprising a box base and a front panel, which is hinged to the box base, between an open state to allow access to the screen box and a closed state to close the screen box; a motor that is fitted in the screen roller, for driving the screen roller; a solar panel, which is provided on the front panel, for generating electrical energy; a power supply, which is provided on the front panel, for storing the electrical energy and delivering this electrical energy to the motor for driving the screen roller; and an electric coupling for coupling an electrical connection between the power supply and the motor.
[0003] The screen of a screen device of this kind that is rollable and unrollable on a screen roller may be configured as an insect screen or as a blackout curtain or as a roller shutter, etc. This screen is typically unrollable for screening a window or door or the like, but may for example also be incorporated in a covering, to form a temporary wall of said covering.
[0004] A solar panel and power supply are provided so as to be able to supply the motor of a screen device of this kind independently of a mains supply. By means of the motor, the screen roller is rotated and the rolling and unrolling motion of the screen is driven thereby.
[0005] Examples of motorized screen devices that are supplied autonomously by a solar panel and power supply are described and illustrated for example in DE 202 10 770 U1 and FR 2 966 943 Al. In screen devices of this kind, a solar panel is typically mounted on the front, so that this can be irradiated by the sun, typically in a front panel that is hinged relative to a box base of the screen box.
[0006] In DE 202 10 770 Ul, the solar panel is mounted on a fixed part at the front and top of the screen box. The screen box is in this case relatively extensive, which is typically felt to be rather unattractive. The power supply is installed at the back of the screen box, where this hampers easy mounting of said screen box.
[0007] In FR 2 966 943 Al the solar panel is mounted on a front panel and the power supply is incorporated in the top of the screen box. Once again, the space that is thus taken up is therefore no longer available for fixing the screen box.
[0008] The applicant is already marketing a screen device of this kind, in which the power supply is provided together with the solar panel on the front panel. Therefore these may be integrated in a screen box of this kind without hampering the fixation of the screen box. The screen box may as a result be made more compact and also more aesthetic. Since the front panel is hinged relative to the box base in order to allow access to the screen box, electric coupling is provided for coupling an electrical connection between the power supply and the motor. However, it is not easy to create said electrical connection. The electric coupling must then be created before the screen box can be closed. This is very awkward, because the front panel may be up to 4 m and must be held in place in an open position in order to create the coupling. In a good many cases there is also in particular little room for this, for example when a screen device of this kind for a window is mounted in a window opening, wherein the surround of the window opening abuts against walls of the screen box. It is also desirable for the screen to close as tightly as possible against the edges of said window opening, optionally with lateral guides, which preferably have a minimum width. As a result, there is little space next to the screen roller and it is desirable not to mount such a coupling in front of the screen roller in such a way that it would hamper the rolling and unrolling of the screen.
[0009] The aim of the present invention is to simplify the electrical connection between the power supply and the motor in a screen device, wherein a solar panel and power supply, for supplying the motor in the screen roller, are provided on a hinged front panel.
[0010] This aim of the invention is achieved by providing a screen device, comprising: a screen roller, with a screen that is rollable and unrollable thereon; a screen box, in which the screen roller is mounted rotatably, comprising a box base and a front panel, which in a direction of rotation is hinged to the box base, between an open state to allow access to the screen box and a closed state to close the screen box; a motor that is fitted in the screen roller, for driving the screen roller; a solar panel, which is provided on the front panel, for generating electrical energy; a power supply, which is provided on the front panel, for storing the electrical energy and delivering this electrical energy to the motor for driving the screen roller; and an electric coupling for coupling an electrical connection between the power supply and the motor, wherein this electric coupling comprises a contact surface that is provided on the box base or on the front panel and a spring contact, which is provided either on the front panel or on the box base, so that in the open state the contact surface and the spring contact are separate from each other in order to break the electrical connection and in the closed state they make contact over a contact area, in order to couple the electrical connection.
[0011] With electric coupling of this kind with a contact surface and a corresponding spring contact, on closing the front panel an electrical connection may be made automatically in the closed state. On opening the front panel, this electrical connection is broken again automatically. As a result, this electrical connection can be particularly simple, so that the screen device is easier to instal and maintenance is also easier if any faults develop.
[0012] The electric coupling will typically comprise two aforementioned contact surfaces and two corresponding aforementioned spring contacts, since motors for screen devices are typically wired with two wires. However, embodiments are also possible with for example three or more aforementioned contact surfaces and three or more corresponding aforementioned spring contacts.
[0013] Motors for example with wiring with three wires, wherein two wires are used for power supply and an extra connection is used for example to give the position of the bottom slat, are also used in screen devices. In one embodiment of a screen device according to the present invention, this third wire may also be used by means of the third contact surface and the third spring contact for example to indicate the state of the battery, for example defective, flat, etc.
[0014] The electric coupling may thus be provided not only for conveying current, but also for data transfer, and for the desired transmissions may be provided with the desired number of contact surfaces and corresponding spring contacts.
[0015] There are various possible known variants of spring contacts. These variants have in common that a spring element ensures that in the closed state the spring contact always exerts a force on the corresponding contact surface with which connection is made. As a result, any undesirable movement that would otherwise cause an intermittent connection is compensated. Large screen boxes typically also have tolerances that can be compensated by said spring contacts, so that despite these tolerances, an electrical connection can be created with certainty in the closed state.
[0016] In a preferred embodiment, the spring contact is a spring-loaded contact pin. A spring contact pin of this kind is also known by the name pogo pin.
[0017] Because the front panel is provided rotatably on the box base and during the hinging movement from the open state to the closed state the electrical connection must be maintained, good positioning of the contact surface and spring contact relative to each other is very important.
[0018] Furthermore, the tolerances of screen boxes in the longitudinal direction are not to be ignored. Screen boxes are typically made from extruded profiles. These screen boxes may be up to 4 m long. The tolerances that then occur make it difficult to create an electrical connection. To make it easier to compensate for these tolerances, the contact area is preferably smaller than the contact surface.
[0019] The contact surface defines the area over which it should in principle be possible to make contact. The contact area over which effective contact is made between the two in practice is then more limited.
[0020] By providing the dimensions and / or the placement of the spring contact relative to the contact surface in such a way that the contact surface itself is larger than the contact area, a relatively large tolerance range can be compensated.
[0021] Each contact surface is moreover preferably surrounded by one or more shielding elements for the electrical shielding of this contact surface. For this purpose, a contact surface like this may for example be recessed.
[0022] Several contact surfaces are preferably also shielded electrically relative to each other by means of these one or more shielding elements.
[0023] Alternatively or additionally, each spring contact is preferably surrounded by one or more shielding elements for the electrical shielding of this spring contact.
[0024] Several spring contacts are preferably also shielded electrically relative to each other by means of these one or more shielding elements.
[0025] In order to be able to compensate the aforementioned tolerances, these one or more shielding elements are preferably installed in such a way that during hinging of the front panel, they allow an unhampered corresponding movement in the direction of rotation of the respective spring contact relative to the contact surface with a certain tolerance transverse to this direction of rotation.
[0026] One or more of said shielding elements for shielding the contact surface and / or for shielding the spring contact are preferably made of elastic material to form waterproofing in the closed state, so that for example condensation cannot penetrate to the electrical connection.
[0027] This elastic material may for example be provided in the form of rubber or closedcell neoprene.
[0028] Each spring contact of the electric coupling of a screen device according to the present invention is preferably provided on the box base. On the front panel, these spring contacts may project and form a fragile element.
[0029] The front panel comprises a front surface, on which the solar panel is provided. In a preferred embodiment, one or more of said shielding elements in the closed state make contact over a shielding contact surface with one or more corresponding aforementioned shielding elements or the box base or the front panel and this shielding contact surface extends, viewed in the direction of rotation, at an angle between 0 and 10° relative to the front surface.
[0030] In this way, it is ensured that condensation that would penetrate between the shielding elements can run off downwards.
[0031] When the screen box is shielded by a front wall on the side where the motor is fitted in the screen roll, then the contact surface or the spring contact that is provided on the box base is preferably mounted in a zone between the front wall and the screen roller. Even more preferably, this is also in a zone between the rollable and unrollable screen on the screen roller and this front wall. More preferably, the contact surface or the spring contact that is provided on the box base is mounted under this screen roller.
[0032] The front panel is preferably provided with a chamber in which the power supply is housed, so that the latter is shielded from condensation.
[0033] When this chamber is shielded towards the front wall by an end wall, the contact surface or the spring contact that is provided on the front panel is preferably mounted sideways from this end wall, so that in the closed state the latter extends between the front wall and the end wall. When the motor is further provided with a fastening head and the front wall is provided with a fastening body to which this fastening head is fastenable, the screen device is also preferably provided with a second electric coupling, comprising a first connecting piece that is provided on the fastening head and is connected electrically to the contact surface or the spring contact, which is provided on the box base and a second corresponding connecting piece that is provided on the fastening body and is connected electrically to the motor, for coupling, when securing the fastening head on the fastening body, an electrical connection between the motor and the contact surface or the spring contact that is provided on the box base.
[0034] In addition, a screen device according to the present invention may comprise a removable insulating strip, which is fitted on the contact surface, so that in the closed state the electrical connection is broken until the insulating strip is removed, and which is provided with a gripping lip that extends outside the screen box.
[0035] This insulating strip forms a barrier between the contact surface and the corresponding spring contact, so that an installer can instal the screen device without having to open the screen box. To make the electrical connection, it is sufficient to pull this insulating strip from between the front panel and the box base, by gripping the gripping lip and pulling on it. This results in a much shorter installation time.
[0036] An insulating strip of this kind may be provided in the form of a pull-out film of the plastic type.
[0037] The present invention is now explained in more detail on the basis of the following detailed description of some preferred embodiments of screen devices according to the present invention. The purpose of this description is exclusively to give illustrative examples and to indicate further advantages and features of the present invention, and is not to be interpreted as a limitation of the scope of the invention or of the patent rights claimed in the claims.

The screen devices (1) shown in the figures comprise a screen roller with a screen (3) that is rollable and unrollable thereon. A motor for driving the rolling and unrolling motion of the screen is fitted in the screen roller. The screen roller and the motor itself are not visible in the figures, but are mounted similarly as described and illustrated for example in EP 3 259 432 Al. Alternative ways of mounting a screen roller of this kind and a motor fitted therein, which could also be used in alternative embodiments of a screen device according to the present invention, are known, for example also from the aforementioned prior art.
[0052] For example a 12 V DC tubular motor may be selected as the motor.
[0053] The screen roller, with the rollable and unrollable screen (3) thereon, is in each case mounted rotatably in a screen box (4). This screen box (4) comprises a box base (5), to which a front wall (16, 26) is fastened at both free ends. At the front, the screen box (4) comprises a front panel (6), which is hinged to the box base (5) and hinges between an open state, as shown in Figs. 8-10, 12 and 14, and a closed state, as shown in Figs. 1 and 11. In the open state there is access to the screen box (4), for example for mounting the screen roller therein or for dismounting it therefrom with screen (3) that is rollable and unrollable thereon. In the closed state, this front panel closes the screen box (4), apart from a slot through which the screen (3) extends in the installed state.
[0054] On either side of the screen (3), in each embodiment shown, a screen guide (18) is provided for holding and guiding the lateral sides of this screen (3) and a bottom slat (25) fastened thereto during the rolling and unrolling of the screen (3). Screen guides (18) of this kind are optional for a screen device (1) according to the present invention.
[0055] On the front surface (7) of the front panel (6), a solar panel (8) is provided for generating electrical energy. This solar panel (8) is on the one hand connected by means of feeder cables (27, 29) to a battery as power supply (9), for storing this electrical energy therein, and on the other hand is connected by means of feeder cables (27, 30) and connectors (31) to contact surfaces (11). Feeder cables (27) are fitted for this purpose through a corresponding opening (28) in the front panel (6). The battery (9) is installed at the rear of the front panel (6) in a chamber (23) provided for this purpose. This chamber (23) is shielded at the back by means of a shielding panel (24) and is closed sideways by means of an end wall (17), in order to screen the battery (9) for example from condensation.
[0056] For a 12 VDC tubular motor, for example a solar panel (8) and battery (9) of 3.2 W may be selected.
[0057] The battery (9) is connected further by means of feeder cables (29, 30) and connectors (31) to contact surfaces (11). These contact surfaces (11) are provided on the front panel (6), and for this purpose are provided on an obliquely vertical part (32) on the end wall (17), so that in the closed state these contact surfaces (11) extend between the front wall (16) and the end wall (17).
[0058] Together with spring contacts (12), described hereunder, these contact surfaces (11) form a first electric coupling for making an electrical connection between the battery (9) and the motor.
[0059] A diode prevents current flowing from the battery (9) to the solar panel (8).
[0060] In order to mount the screen roller, with the rollable and unrollable screen (3) thereon and the tubular motor fitted therein, in the screen box (4), the front wall (16) is provided with a fastening body (20) on the tubular motor side. The tubular motor is provided with a fastening head (19), which is fastenable in the fastening body (20) by a linear sliding movement. The fastening head (19) is also provided with a first connecting piece (21) and the fastening body (20) with a second corresponding connecting piece (22), which together form a second electric coupling. Said fastening head (19) and said fastening body (20) with their associated electrical fittings (21, 22) may for example be configured as described and illustrated in BE 1 018 808 A5 and EP 3 372 773 Al. In the embodiments of screen devices according to the present invention as shown in Figs. 2-3, 7-12 and 14, alternative embodiments of a fastening head (19) of this kind, a fastening body (20) of this kind and their associated electrical fittings (21, 22) are used, but they are configured comparably. The second connecting piece (22) is connected by means of feeder cables (25) to spring contacts (12) that form part of the first electric coupling. These spring contacts (12) are mounted relative to the contact surfaces (11) on the front panel (6) in such a way that in the open state of the front panel (6) they are mounted separately from each other, but in the closed state they come into contact with each other over a contact area, to make an electrical connection. On closing the front panel (6) by hinging these in a direction of rotation (R) from the open state to the closed state, this electrical connection is made automatically. In this way, an electrical connection may be made between the motor and the power supply (9) for delivering electrical energy to the motor for driving the screen roller.
[0061] The spring contacts (12) are mounted in a zone between the front wall (16) and the screen (3), above the screen guide (18). In the embodiments shown, these spring contacts (12) are mounted in a zone under the screen roller. The first electric coupling is mounted under the second electric coupling, at the bottom of the screen box (4). In this way, the electrical connection on closing the front panel (6) is only made at the end of the rotational motion. Conversely, this electrical connection will be broken as soon as the front panel (6) is opened. The battery (9), being the heaviest component, is mounted at the bottom of the front panel (6), in order to simplify the rotational motion.
[0062] In the embodiments shown, the contact surfaces (11) are always provided on the front panel (6) and the spring contacts (12) are provided on the box base (5). In alternative, less preferred embodiments, the two may be swapped round for making a first electric coupling.
[0063] In all embodiments, the contact area, over which in practice contact is effectively made between a spring contact (12) and a corresponding contact surface (11), is smaller than the contact surface (11) itself, over which in principle contact could be made, so that tolerances can be compensated.
[0064] In the first embodiment shown, spring-loaded contact pins (12) are provided for this purpose, which are spring mounted in the direction of rotation (R). The corresponding contact surfaces (11) are provided as a recess in the obliquely vertical part (32) on the end wall (17) and they each have a diameter that is greater than the diameter of the corresponding end of the contact pins (12).
[0065] In the second embodiment, spring contacts (12) folded from spring steel are also spring mounted in the direction of rotation (R). The corresponding contact surfaces (11) are also provided as a recess in the obliquely vertical part (32) on the end wall (17) and they each have a surface that is larger than the surface of the corresponding end of the folded spring contacts (12).
[0066] In the third embodiment, each spring contact (12) comprises two spring-loaded folded legs (10), which are spring mounted transversely to the direction of rotation (R). Each contact surface (11) then forms part of a lip projecting transversely to the obliquely vertical part (32) on the end wall (17), and extending in the direction of rotation (R). The ends of the spring-loaded legs (10) are spread apart, so that the projecting lip can be gripped between them, and tolerances are compensated. The lip has a surface that is larger than the surface of the spring-loaded folded legs (10) that comes into contact with it, so that for a certain tolerance range it can be ensured that in the closed state contact is always made between the two.
[0067] In the first two embodiments, each contact surface (11) is surrounded by a vertical edge of the obliquely vertical part (32) that delimits the corresponding recess. This vertical edge forms a shielding element (13) for the electrical shielding of this contact surface (11).
[0068] In each of the embodiments, each spring contact (12) is surrounded by housing elements (14), which form shielding elements (14) for the electrical shielding of this spring contact (12).
[0069] These shielding elements (13, 14) are in each case mounted in such a way that during hinging of the front panel (6), they allow unhindered corresponding motion, in the direction of rotation (R), of the respective spring contact (12) relative to the contact surface (11) with a certain tolerance transverse to this direction of rotation (R). The part of the housing elements (14) that is mounted facing the front panel (6) is in each case made of elastic material, to form waterproofing in the closed state.
[0070] In the closed state over a shielding contact surface (15) these housing elements (14) come into contact with corresponding aforementioned shielding elements (13) or the front panel (6), by coming into contact with the vertical part (32) on the end wall (17). This shielding contact surface (15) extends, seen in the direction of rotation (R), at an angle (a) between 0 and 10° relative to the front surface (7) of the front panel (6).
[0071] In each of the embodiments shown, the first electric coupling comprises two aforementioned contact surfaces (11) and two corresponding aforementioned spring contacts (12) (RTS configuration). Alternatively, for example three aforementioned contact surfaces (11) and three corresponding aforementioned spring contacts (12) may also be provided (IO configuration); electric coupling is provided not only for conveying current, but also for transfer of data. The additional electrical connection that is then made may for example be used to indicate the state of the battery (9) (e.g. defective, flat, etc.).
[0072] In the first two embodiments, the screen device (1) may additionally be provided with a removable insulating strip, which is fitted on the contact surface (11), so that in the closed state the electrical connection is broken until the insulating strip is removed. This insulating strip then preferably comprises a gripping lip that extends outside the screen box (4), so that this can be gripped in order to pull the insulating strip from between the front panel (6) and the box base (5).
