Abstract

A method for operating a heating appliance (1) is proposed. The heating appliance (1) comprises a burner (3) to which a mixture of fuel gas and combustion air is supplied via a mixture channel (11) by means of a conveying device (2), and a flame arrestor (12) designed to prevent the propagation of a flame from the burner (3) towards the mixture channel (11). The method comprises at least the following steps: a) Determining at least one parameter that allows conclusions to be drawn about the flow resistance of the flame arrestor (12), b) Determining a time course of the parameter determined in step a) or a quantity or function derived therefrom, c) Determining the permeability of the flame arrestor (12) in view of the time course determined in step b). A computer program, a control and monitoring device (7), and a heating appliance (1) are also specified.
