Driver stage for controlling LEDs with pulsing capability and simultaneous data transmission

Abstract

Driver stage with pulse generation capability for operating light sources, comprising a positive input terminal (1), a first (Sl) and a second electronic switch (S2), a first (N 1) and a second winding (N2) magnetically coupled to each other, a first diode (D 1) wherein the positive terminal of the first electronic switch (S 1) is connected to the positive input terminal (1), the negative terminal of the first electronic switch is connected to the first terminal (A) of the first winding (Nl), the second terminal of the first winding (Nl) is connected to the first terminal of the second winding (N2) (M), and an input voltage (Ul) is connected between the positive input terminal (1) and the second terminal (E) of the second winding (N2).The following applies: between the junction (M) between the first (N1) and second windings (N2) and the second terminal of the second winding (E), one or more light-emitting diodes (LEDs) emitting visible light, infrared radiation, or ultraviolet radiation are connected; the cathode of the first diode (D1) is connected to the first terminal (A) of the first winding (N1); the negative terminal of the second electronic switch (S2) is connected to the anode of the first diode (D1); and the positive terminal of the second electronic switch (S2) is connected either to the junction (M) between the first (N1) and second windings (N2) or to the second terminal (E) of the second winding. Dimming and data transmission can be achieved by keeping the second electronic switch (S2) switched on for a longer period relative to the first electronic switch (S1).It is worth noting that no capacitors are needed for energy conversion.
