Abstract

The invention relates to a method for handling unit loads (S) in a storage system (100) by means of a transport vehicle (1) with unit load transfer devices (4) arranged opposite each other and extendable relative to a receiving platform (3), and transport elements (5) pivotably mounted on these devices. During an active change in the distance between the unit load transfer devices (4), a restraint moment acting on at least one of the transport elements (5) is detected, and a characteristic change in the restraint moment is detected. Depending on this, the respective distance between the unit load transfer devices (4) and the corresponding pivot angles (α) of the transport elements (5) are transmitted to a processing unit (11). The processing unit (11) then determines the height of the unit load (S) based on one or more distance and pivot angle values ​​(α).The height determination is carried out without additional external sensors related to individual items and can be used to control further handling steps of the transport vehicle (1).
