Flitch beam, assembly and method of manufacture

Abstract

This application discloses a flitch beam or an assembly comprising a first wooden beam having a length extending in a first direction, a second wooden beam having a length extending in the first direction and a metal plate sandwiched between the first wooden beam and the second wooden beam. The metal plate has a length extending in the first direction which is less than the lengths of the first wooden beam and the second wooden beam. A main portion of the flitch beam or assembly comprises in cross section the first wooden beam, the metal plate and the second wooden beam. At least one end of the flitch beam forms a cuttable portion which comprises in cross section the first wooden beam and the second wooden beam, but not the metal plate. A method of manufacturing the flitch beam or the assembly is also disclosed.
