Abstract

Abstract The present disclosure relates to an adsorbent-based gas sensing system configured to determine a concentration of a target component within a sample gas. Also described is a method for determining a concentration of a target component within a sample gas. The ability to determine the concentration of a specific component within a sample gas may be a helpful tool for mitigating harmful effects from that target component. For example, the ability to determine the concentration of a carcinogenic component, such as benzene, within a sample gas, such as the air around an industrial site, may be a helpful tool for mitigating harmful effects to people working around that site. The gas sensing system of the present disclosure comprises an inlet configured to receive the sample gas (e.g. air), a concentrating heated adsorbent bed comprising one or more adsorbent materials and a detector downstream of the concentrating heated adsorbent bed for detecting the target component within the sample gas. Also present is a flow generator to generate a flow of sample gas. Also present is a controller to control components of the gas sensing system.
