A machine for forming a helix

Abstract

A preferred embodiment of this invention addresses the problem of the need to form correctly sized helices from blanks of different sizes, and of different edge cut configurations, by securely holding the blanks. It involves a machine for forming a helical flight from a metallic annular blank, comprising first and second clamps each having a pair of jaws. For at least the first clamp one of its jaws comprises a wedge adapted to move along an inclined raceway towards its other jaw to releasably clamp the blank. The second jaw is also adapted to releasably clamp the blank.
