CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
[0001] This application claims priority to Chinese Patent Application No. 202510318728.7, filed on March 18, 2025, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. FIELD
[0002] The present disclosure relates to the technical field of hydrometallurgy, and more particularly to a method for combined processing of copper-cobalt sulfide ore and cobalt oxide ore. BACKGROUND
[0003] With the continuous mining of cobalt minerals, resources of high-grade and easy-to-process cobalt oxide ore are decreasing, and refractory cobalt sulfide ore has become a current research hotspot. Copper and cobalt, as associated resources, generally exist in a form of coppercobalt sulfide ore. Since copper-cobalt sulfide minerals are difficult to dissolve in sulfuric acid under atmospheric pressure, relying solely on a process of direct leaching of raw ore makes it difficult to recover the copper-cobalt sulfide minerals, resulting in relatively low copper and cobalt leaching rates. At the same time, part of copper-cobalt sulfide ore also contains a large amount of alkaline gangue minerals such as high-calcium and high-magnesium dolomite, leading to high acid consumption and high production costs during direct leaching. In addition, due to a low grade of cobalt in the ore, complex mineral occurrence and extremely fine dissemination particle size, cobalt cannot be recovered efficiently.
[0004] During a copper-cobalt ore processing process, a “sulfation roasting - atmospheric pressure acid leaching” process is generally adopted for preliminary recovery of copper and cobalt. However, when this process is used to process a copper-cobalt sulfide concentrate, influenced by variations in ore composition and a level of roasting operation, a leaching residue still contains a relatively high amount of copper and cobalt, resulting in significant losses of copper and cobalt. from a sulfur concentrate via low-temperature roasting. The sulfur concentrate is subjected to the low-temperature roasting, followed by two-stage atmospheric pressure leaching to obtain a coppercobalt leachate. This process still belongs to the conventional “sulfation roasting - atmospheric pressure acid leaching” processing process for the sulfur concentrate. CN 113789441 A discloses a combined leaching process for cobalt sulfur concentrate and cobalt hydroxide ore, involving combined leaching of the cobalt sulfur concentrate and cobalt hydroxide ore under high pressure. However, problems such as low leaching rates of cobalt and copper metals exist.
[0006] Therefore, among current processing methods for copper-cobalt sulfide minerals, pyrometallurgical processing generates a large amount of sulfur dioxide, requiring significant environmental protection investments and causing prominent pollution issues, while also suffering from problems such as low recovery rates of valuable metals. Bioleaching is mostly used to process low-grade raw materials. However, a hydrometallurgical process combining roasting and wet atmospheric leaching also generates sulfur dioxide during the roasting, and during the roasting, part of cobalt is prone to form high-valence cobalt, resulting in a problem that leaching rates of cobalt and copper metals are still low. SUMMARY

[0012] In some embodiments, the sulfur-fixing agent includes one or more selected from: sodium carbonate, sodium sulfate or sodium chloride, and / or a weight ratio of the copper-cobalt sulfide ore to the sulfur-fixing agent is 1: 0.2 to 1: 0.6.

In a case where a weight ratio of S in the copper-cobalt sulfide ore to Co in the cobalt oxide ore is less than 1: 0.04 and greater than or equal to 1: 0.06, an oxygen partial pressure for the oxygen pressure leaching is greater than 0.5 MPa and less than or equal to 1 MPa.
[0018] By applying the technical solution provided in the embodiment of the present disclosure, the roasting is combined with the oxygen pressure leaching for the combined processing of the copper-cobalt sulfide ore and the cobalt oxide ore. Through the roasting, sulfides in the coppercobalt sulfide ore are converted into soluble sulfates, while low-valence sulfides released by thermal decomposition can reduce high-valence cobalt in the cobalt oxide ore to low-valence cobalt that dissolves readily in an acidic solution, which can reduce consumption of sulfur-fixing reducing agent during a leaching process when processing the cobalt oxide ore alone, thus lowering a processing cost for both the copper-cobalt sulfide ore and the cobalt oxide ore substantially. Since the sulfides are used in a cobalt reduction process, essentially no sulfur dioxide is generated during the roasting, reducing environmental pollution during a mineral processing process significantly. At the same time, by adopting the oxygen pressure leaching process, residual sulfur in the roasted ore enters a residue or solution as sulfate ions. Since the copper-cobalt sulfide ore and the cobalt oxide ore have been subjected to a combined roasting treatment in the previous step, sulfate ion balance is better maintained during the oxygen pressure leaching without producing significant excess sulfuric acid, which can improve copper and cobalt leaching rates significantly while reducing losses of metals in the mineral raw materials. The method provided in the embodiments of the present disclosure is an approach for combined processing of copper-cobalt sulfide ore and cobalt oxide ore, featuring low production costs, minimal environmental pollution and high copper and cobalt leaching rates, while delivering high-value-added products with broad application prospects. DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0019] It should be noted that embodiments in the present disclosure and features in the embodiments can be combined with each other without conflict. The present disclosure will be described in detail below in conjunction with the embodiments.
[0020] Terminology explanation:
[0021] Acid-ore ratio: a weight ratio of an acidic liquid (in kg) used during a leaching process to a material to be leached (in t).
[0022] Liquid-solid ratio: a weight ratio of liquid to a solid material in an ore pulp during a leaching process.
[0023] As described in the background of the present disclosure, the related art has problems of high production costs, significant environmental pollution, and relatively low copper and cobalt leaching rates during a roasting process of copper-cobalt sulfide ore. In order to solve the abovementioned problems, a method for combined processing of copper-cobalt sulfide ore and cobalt oxide ore is provided in an embodiment of the present disclosure and includes steps S1 to S4. In step S1, the copper-cobalt sulfide ore and the cobalt oxide ore are mixed to obtain a mixed ore. In step S2, the mixed ore is mixed with a sulfur-fixing agent, followed by roasting to obtain a roasted ore. In step S3, the roasted ore is mixed with water and sulfuric acid for oxygen pressure leaching to obtain a leaching material. In step S4, solid-liquid separation is performed on the leaching material to obtain a copper-cobalt leachate and a leaching residue.
[0024] According to the embodiment of the present disclosure, the roasting is combined with the oxygen pressure leaching for the combined processing of the copper-cobalt sulfide ore and the cobalt oxide ore, enabling efficient extraction of copper and cobalt. The copper-cobalt sulfide ore and the cobalt oxide ore undergo ore proportioning, followed by the roasting. Through the roasting, sulfides in the copper-cobalt sulfide ore are converted into soluble sulfates, while low-valence sulfides (products during the roasting) released by thermal decomposition can reduce high-valence cobalt in the cobalt oxide ore to low-valence cobalt that dissolves readily in an acidic solution. In the above-mentioned process, on the one hand, the copper-cobalt sulfide ore indirectly functions as a reducing agent for the cobalt oxide ore, which not only facilitates efficient roasting of valuable metals in the two minerals, but also reduce reducing agent (also referred to as the sulfur-fixing agent) consumption required when processing the cobalt oxide ore alone, thus lowering processing costs for both the copper-cobalt sulfide ore and the cobalt oxide ore significantly. On the other hand, internal utilization of sulfur from the copper-cobalt sulfide ore ensures that essentially no sulfur dioxide is generated during the roasting process, which solves a problem of sulfur dioxide escape during the roasting process of copper-cobalt sulfide ore, thus reducing environmental pollution during a mineral processing process significantly.
[0025] The roasted ore obtained in the roasting process is then added to an autoclave, and at the same time, oxygen is introduced to process the roasted ore by using the oxygen pressure leaching process, so that residual sulfur in the roasted ore enters a residue or solution as sulfate ions, further preventing the generation of sulfur dioxide. Compared to an atmospheric pressure leaching process, the oxygen pressure leaching process can further solve a problem of high copper and cobalt contents in the leaching residue. In addition, since the copper-cobalt sulfide ore and the cobalt oxide ore have been subjected to a combined roasting treatment in the previous step, sulfate ion balance is better maintained during the oxygen pressure leaching process without producing significant excess sulfuric acid. At the same time, copper and cobalt leaching rates are improved significantly, losses of copper and cobalt in mineral raw materials are reduced, and generated iron sulfate (Fe2(SO4)3) with low reactivity can be used to inhibit leaching of iron, decreasing burden of iron removal from a solution and minimizing valuable metal losses. Finally, the solid-liquid separation is performed on the leaching material, which can be performed by means of suction filtration, pressure filtration, bag filtration and the like to obtain the copper-cobalt leachate and the leaching residue. Main metal elements of the copper-cobalt leachate are copper and cobalt, and a main metal element of the leaching residue is iron. When the method provided in the embodiment of the present disclosure is used to process the copper-cobalt sulfide ore and the cobalt oxide ore, a total copper leaching rate is > 96%, a total cobalt leaching rate is > 96%, and a total iron leaching rate is < 1.8%.
[0026] In an embodiment, a weight ratio of the copper-cobalt sulfide ore to the cobalt oxide ore is 1: 1.5 to 1: 3. By controlling the weight ratio of the copper-cobalt sulfide to the cobalt oxide within the above-mentioned range, it facilitates more thorough contact and reaction between sulfide and oxide during the roasting process.
[0027] In an embodiment, the copper-cobalt sulfide ore has a Cu content of 15 to 25 wt.%, a Co content of 8 to 15 wt.%, a Fe content of 6 to 15 wt.%, a Mg content of 2 to 5.5 wt.% and a S content of 15 to 21 wt.%, and / or the cobalt oxide ore has a Cu content of 0.5 to 2.5 wt.%, a Co content of 8 to 16 wt.%, a Fe content of 0.5 to 2.5 wt.%, a Mg content of 0.2 to 1.3 wt.% and a S content of 0 to 0.4 wt.%. In an embodiment, a particle size of the copper-cobalt sulfide ore is < 0.15 mm. In an embodiment, a particle size of the cobalt oxide ore is < 0.15 mm.
[0028] A high sulfur content and appropriate copper and cobalt contents in the copper-cobalt sulfide ore enable sulfur to be released through thermal decomposition as low-valence sulfides during the roasting process, and the low-valence sulfides can be taken as the reducing agent to reduce high-valence cobalt with a relatively high content in the cobalt oxide ore to low-valence cobalt, which dissolves readily during an acid leaching process. At the same time, controlling a content of alkaline gangue minerals such as Ca and Mg in the cobalt oxide ore within a relatively low range can further minimizes their impact on the acid leaching process, preventing increased acid consumption. A relatively low iron content facilitates suppression of its leaching during the oxygen pressure leaching, decreasing burden of iron removal from a solution. By limiting the composition of the two ores within the above-mentioned range, not only can the metal recovery rate be improved and the metal loss be reduced, but also chemical equilibrium in the process can be improved, reducing the energy consumption and cost, and achieving an environmentally friendly, economical and efficient combined processing effect.
[0029] In an embodiment, a weight ratio of Co in the copper-cobalt sulfide ore to Co in the cobalt oxide ore is 1: 1.5 to 1: 4, and / or a weight ratio of S in the copper-cobalt sulfide ore to Co in the cobalt oxide ore is 1: 0.02 to 1: 0.06. The above-mentioned conditions can improve desulfurization efficiency and reduction efficiency of valuable metals, thus further reducing the generation and escape of sulfur dioxide during the roasting process and decreasing consumption of sulfur-fixing reducing agent during the leaching process when processing oxides alone. At the same time, when a roasted material is subjected to the oxygen pressure leaching, copper and cobalt leaching rates metal are further improved, thus lowering overall production costs and increasing economic benefits.
[0030] To ensure that the sulfur-fixing agent (reducing agent / oxidation promoter) more thoroughly facilitate the conversion of sulfides into soluble sulfates while effectively fixing sulfur (making it less prone to escape) during the roasting, in an embodiment, the sulfur-fixing agent includes one or more selected from: sodium carbonate, sodium sulfate or sodium chloride, and / or a weight ratio of the copper-cobalt sulfide ore to the sulfur-fixing agent is 1: 0.2 to 1: 0.6. Moreover, compared to traditional additives, these compounds can control a roasting temperature more effectively while fixing sulfur and promoting efficient recovery of valuable metals, reducing the energy consumption during the roasting process. Maintaining an amount of sulfur-fixing agent within the above-mentioned range can further improve sulfide oxidation efficiency, minimize sulfur dioxide emissions and environmental pollution, and allow cost reduction through the use of low dosages.
[0031] To more effectively promote efficient oxidation of sulfides while facilitating the reduction of cobalt in the cobalt oxide ore and enhancing a resource recovery rate, in an embodiment, the roasting is performed at a temperature of 350 to 600 °C for 1 to 4 h. Under the above-mentioned temperature and time conditions, efficient desulfurization and metal reduction can be achieved with relatively low energy consumption, and at the same time, increased energy consumption and equipment wear caused by excessively high temperature can be reduced, and reaction completeness can be further improved, which is beneficial to improving the metal recovery rate, lowering the production costs and achieving dual enhancement in both environmental protection and economic benefits.
[0032] In an embodiment, an acid-ore ratio for the oxygen pressure leaching is 150 to 250 kg / t, and a liquid-solid ratio is 3: 1 to 8: 1. In an embodiment, the oxygen pressure leaching is performed under stirring at a stirring speed is 700 to 900 r / min. That is, a ratio of a total weight of acidic liquid used for the oxygen pressure leaching to a weight of roasted ore to be leached is 150 to 250 kg / t. The above-mentioned conditions ensure more thorough solid-liquid reactions during the leaching process, improving dissolution rates of copper and cobalt.
[0033] To further accelerate dissolution of copper and cobalt and improve the leaching efficiency, in an embodiment, an oxygen partial pressure for the oxygen pressure leaching is 0.2 to 1.0 MPa, and / or the oxygen pressure leaching is performed at a temperature of 180 to 240 °C for 1 to 4 h. By refining leaching conditions within the above-mentioned range, the leaching process can be controlled more accurately, the copper and cobalt leaching rates can be improved, leaching of iron can be inhibited simultaneously, the acid consumption and the burden of iron removal from the solution can be reduced, excess sulfuric acid can be reduced, the production cost and environmental protection pressure can be reduced, product purity and metal recovery efficiency can be improved, and process stability and economic feasibility can be improved, thus establishing a foundation for large-scale industrial implementation.
[0034] To improve the metal recovery rate more effectively, in an embodiment, a roasting temperature is greater than an oxygen pressure leaching temperature, with a temperature difference of 150 to 400 °C. Such a temperature difference allows a reduction reaction in the roasting process and an oxidation dissolution reaction in the oxygen pressure leaching process to be carried out under their respective optimal conditions, achieving optimal integration of the roasting and the oxygen pressure leaching during the combined processing of the copper-cobalt sulfide ore and the cobalt oxide ore.
[0035] A synergy of a sulfur content and roasting conditions provided in the embodiment of the present disclosure facilitates effective reduction of cobalt and improvement of copper and cobalt leaching rates under different raw material conditions. In an embodiment, in a case where the mixed ore has a S content of 4.0 to 5.5 wt.%, the roasting is performed at a temperature of 350 to 450 °C. In a case where the mixed ore has a S content of greater than 5.5 wt.% and less than or equal to 8.5 wt.%, the roasting is performed at a temperature of more than 450°C and less than or equal to 600°C.
[0036] When the S content in the mixed ore is relatively high, a relatively high roasting temperature is adopted. At this time, sulfur in the copper-cobalt sulfide ore can be activated through a more intense thermal effect. The relatively high sulfur content can provide sufficient low-valence sulfide as the reducing agent to promote effective reduction of high-valence cobalt in the cobalt oxide ore, thus reducing an amount of the reducing agent. At the same time, the relatively high roasting temperature compensates for insufficient oxidation power due to inadequate cobalt oxide content, facilitates the conversion of the relatively high S content in the mixed ore, and achieves efficient leaching of cobalt and copper. At the same time, a leaching amount of iron can be controlled, sulfate ions balance can be maintained, and complexity of subsequent processing can be reduced.
[0037] When the S content in the mixed ore is relatively low, a relatively low roasting temperature is adopted. At this time, due to the relatively low sulfur content, less heat is needed to activate the sulfur in the copper-cobalt sulfide ore, providing reduction power for the cobalt oxide ore and improving reduction efficiency of cobalt in the cobalt oxide ore. At the same time, the relatively low temperature minimizes excessive volatilization of low-content sulfur, reduces energy consumption, and controls a reduction reaction rate, thus improving the recovery rates of cobalt and copper.
[0038] By precisely matching a S / Co ratio with an oxygen pressure leaching condition, efficient conversion and metal recovery during the combined processing of the copper-cobalt sulfide ore and the cobalt oxide ore can be achieved. In an embodiment, in a case where a weight ratio of S in the copper-cobalt sulfide ore to Co in the cobalt oxide ore is 1: 0.02 to 1: 0.04, an oxygen partial pressure for the oxygen pressure leaching is 0.2 to 0.5 MPa.
[0039] When the weight ratio of S to Co is relatively high, it indicates that sulfur in the coppercobalt sulfide ore is sufficient to act as the reducing agent to reduce the high valence cobalt in the cobalt oxide ore. However, due to a relatively high S content and good stability of sulfides, more intense oxygen pressure leaching conditions are needed to promote the conversion of sulfur, strengthen the leaching process, and ensure thorough dissolution of the copper-cobalt sulfide. A relatively high oxygen partial pressure can increase reaction kinetics, promote the combination of metal ions in minerals with sulfate ions, achieve a relatively high metal leaching rate, maintain a good balance of sulfate ions in the solution, prevent excess sulfuric acid, and maintain process economic efficiency and environmental friendliness.
[0040] When the weight ratio of S to Co is relatively low, it indicates that a proportion of sulfides is small, and only a milder oxygen pressure leaching condition is needed, which can promote the leaching of copper and cobalt effectively, minimize unnecessary energy consumption and reduce the leaching of iron, thus lowering a subsequent processing cost and improving the metal recovery rates and purity.
[0041] Illustratively, but not limitatively, the weight ratio of the copper-cobalt sulfide ore to the cobalt oxide ore is 1: 1.5, 1: 1.8, 1: 2.0, 1: 2.2, 1: 2.5, 1: 2.8, 1: 3, or a range consisting of any two of these numerical values.

[0044] Illustratively, but not limitatively, the weight ratio of the copper-cobalt sulfide ore to the sulfur-fixing agent is 1: 0.2, 1: 0.3, 1: 0.4, 1: 0.5, 1: 0.6, or a range consisting of any two of these numerical values.

[0174] Roasting desulfurization rates of the above-mentioned Examples 1 to 24 and Comparative Examples 1 to 12 were measured. Copper and cobalt leachate in the above-mentioned Examples 1 to 24 and Comparative Examples 1 to 12 was measured to obtain a total copper leaching rate, a total cobalt leaching rate and a total iron leaching rate in the copper-cobalt sulfide ore and the cobalt oxide ore. The results were shown in Table 2.
[0175] Roasting desulfurization rates: a sulfur content in the mixed ore and a sulfur content in the roasted ore can be determined by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, and can also be determined by other chemical analysis methods such as combustion and titration. The roasting desulfurization rates = (the sulfur content in the mixed ore - the sulfur content in the roasted ore) ^ the sulfur content in the mixed ore.
[0176] Total copper leaching rate, total cobalt leaching rate and total iron leaching rate: a corresponding metal content in the mixed ore may be determined by atomic absorption spectrometry, and may also be determined by other chemical analysis methods such as inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. A metal leaching rate = a metal content in a leachate ^ a metal content in mixed ore, or a metal leaching rate = (a metal content in mixed ore - a metal content in a leaching residue) ^ the metal content in the mixed ore. [0178] It should be noted that increasing the acid-ore ratio in Comparative Example 7 can promote leaching, but the copper and cobalt leaching rates did not increase significantly. Instead, acid consumption was increased, the cost was raised, and there was no benefit.
[0179] Based on the above, compared to Comparative Examples 1 to 12, in Examples 1 to 24 of the present disclosure, the roasting is combined with the oxygen pressure leaching for the combined processing of the copper-cobalt sulfide ore and the cobalt oxide ore. Through the roasting, sulfides in the copper-cobalt sulfide ore are converted into soluble sulfates, while low-valence sulfides released by thermal decomposition can reduce high-valence cobalt in the cobalt oxide ore into low-valence cobalt that dissolves readily in an acidic solution, which can reduce the consumption of sulfur-fixing reducing agent during a leaching process when processing the cobalt oxide ore alone, thus lowering the processing costs for both the copper-cobalt sulfide ore and the cobalt oxide ore substantially. Since the sulfides are used in the cobalt reduction process, essentially no sulfur dioxide is generated during the roasting, thus reducing the environmental pollution during the mineral processing process significantly. At the same time, by adopting the oxygen pressure leaching process, the residual sulfur in the roasted ore enters a residue or solution as sulfate ions. Since the copper-cobalt sulfide ore and the cobalt oxide ore have been subjected to a combined roasting treatment in the previous step, sulfate ion balance is better maintained during the oxygen pressure leaching without producing significant excess sulfuric acid, which can improve the copper and cobalt leaching rates significantly while reducing the losses of copper and cobalt in the mineral raw materials. The method provided in the examples of the present disclosure is an approach for combined processing of copper-cobalt sulfide ore and cobalt oxide ore, featuring low production costs, minimal environmental pollution and high copper and cobalt leaching rates, while delivering high-value-added products with broad application prospects.
[0180] In addition, it can be seen that when all process parameters are within the ranges defined in the examples of the present disclosure, a comprehensive effect is better.

For those skilled in the art, the present disclosure may be subject to various modifications and changes. Any modification, equivalent substitution, improvement, etc. made within the spirit and principle of the present disclosure should be included in the protection scope of the present disclosure.
